I have lived there before and I would highly suggest staying on the West side. That's West of Hwy 14. Rancho Vista is a pretty nice area. I would live there again. That's my best suggestion. But again shit happens no matter where you are. If you contact the sheriffs office they can tell you the areas in Palmdale with higher crime rates. Hope this helps.

I would strongly suggest that you choose any place on the outskirts of Palmdale and avoid that cesspool at all costs. Acton is fairly nice as well as the Antelope Acres area of the Antelope Valley. Lake Elizabeth is another decent area about 20 miles away from gangdale

I, too is considering in moving to Palmdale. I am presently in Turkey and will be returning in September. My daughter and her family lives in Los Angeles but I can't afford the LA area and Palmdale is not too far away. The biggest obsticle is the crime rates I keep hearing. After serving the military and Dod for over 40 year. I'm alone; therefore, I need to find a safe place. If Palmdale isn't that safe, what is the Major, the Sherrif and police department doing to keep the community safe? Do the Major hold townhall meetings to talk these problems out?

Run far, far away from Palmdale! The homes are cheap for a reason. Hot 100+ degrees in summer,-20 degrees in winter, tumbleweeds, dirt, low academic scores, homes were built cheaply back in 2003 and show signs of weathering. The 14 freeway is the only major highway into the city and believe me, is a nightmare during commutes. Though, the gang activity is not as bad as in Compton, I'd be afraid to live alone in Palmdale.

One more thought...while homes are cheap, the true cost is utilities: air condtioning bills are high in summer, gas bills are high in winter, it's the desert so water is also expensive and petrol to drive the 50 miles out of the valley to the nearest metropolitan. area (real theater, museums, parks, etc.)

Haha. Its not hillbilly town. As much as I would rather it be. But it doesn't get -20 here. Its well over 100 in the summer. Stay in west Palmdale or go to the edges of the valley. But thing is the bad people can travel too. Especially if its only across town. I would say visit each walmart in the area to get a general idea of the demographics for that area. Santa clarita is nice. I would like to move there myself...

Incirlik? I suggest santa clarita. Its somewhat close to LA but its a little more expensive than the AV which is probably why people skip it and just come to the antelope valley to live.
Haha. Meetings? People would rather complain when things are bad instead of preventing it in the first place. And these people out here will be likely to make you mad especially after being in/around the military. They don't care about other people they don't know what it is to be honest. No integrity. No common courtesy for other peoples feelings. I want to go back to europe...

Did you already move to Palmdale? I hope to be moving end of this morn or early October. I'm working with Realtors in finding a home to buy. Would be nice to meet friends when I get there. If you want, write me at edwardbm200302@yahoo.com and see how you're doing...

I am in Izmir formerly working for NATO and now retired but still living in Izmir. My wife is remaining back but I want a change of location and atmosphere. I have been working with realtors in Palmdale in search for a home in West Palmdale or close to. Unfortunately, I can't afford the homes in LA and Palmdale is the closest and more affordable (I know why). I promised I wouldn't say I've retired from the Army and as DoD civil servant. My hope is to find families and friends my age group (senior) to spend time with over coffee or at the gym. if you or anyone is interested write me (edwardbm200302@yahoo.com). I hope to relocate end of this month.

It's been a year since this was posted and I just stumbled upon it while googling the area. I moved into Littlerock about a month ago, trying to be closer to my campus in LA without giving up the space I'd grown used to in Paso Robles. It's very remote, a rural town that rose up around an old bandits roost, bit it's pretty nice. Everyone mostly keeps to themselves and no one really cares what you might be doing on your property.

There is the problem of teenagers who are bored in the neighborhood, so they tag and loiter around on corners, but it's not a big deal. There is also a serious problem with puppy mills, cock fights and dog fights.

On the plus side: housing is incredibly cheap, and the area is incredibly atmospheric and inspiring for aspiring writers. There are several cowboys who ride their horses by my house at dusk, and I don't think I've ever heard something so dramatic as hoof beats echoing up and down the street in the twilight.

Its a great Place to live. People don't realize that it's not even as bad as Canoga park or woodland hills I'd say it's better than Burbank. Nice people yea it hit but nothing a air conditioner can't fix and the heat won't kill ya it's not hotter than the valley which I lived my whole life it different cause the air is clean. Stick in the 93552 area code it's nice. Honestly people are very calm and chill.

I have lived in Palmdale my WHOLE life. It's changed over the years, but it isn't as bad as others are putting it out to be. The West side is fancier, but you better have some money! It's pretty high over there. I live on the East Side, and it isn't THAT bad. As long as you don't come up in here causing problems you'll be fine. There is crime anywhere you go, cops and helipcopters wherever you go. Shootings, stabbings so on so forth. It's everywhere. No need to be afraid to live somewhere! Come be a Palmdillian, it's not that horrible.
