I live in Bethlehem, Pa. Found a bracelet for a JAN H. NELSON/USMC, born Sept. 9, 1944-died April 11, 1970. Was USMC 02. Think he's from Clearwater, Fla. but died in action in S. Vietnam. According to the bracelet, was a 1st Lt. ANYONE with any info, please email me at gypsyfodor@rcn.com.

I just moved to my address a few years ago...while planting/digging found this arcticle. It breaks my heart and think the family should have it obviously!!!! Brought me to tears because my son graduated from the USMC. Any responces will be appreciated. Thank you so much everyone!!!!!!!!! Stefania

"Jan H. Nelson" must be calling out...
My Mom passed away in August and this weekend I was going through her jewelry box and found a bracelet that reads:

1LT Jan H. Nelson
USMC 4-11-70 SVN

So I got on here and found your post. If you heard anything from anyone I too would like to send the bracelet to a loved on.

That is amazing! How many of these bracelets were made....my dad bought out a old pawn shop in Lufkin, Texas and this same identical bracelet was in with a bunch of tools. He wanted me to see if I could find the owner's family....Please contact me at barbarasemail2004@yahoo.com

Jan Nelson was a 1st Lt flying a close air support mission when his A-4 flew into thw ground at high speed. The USMC went in and found no evidence he surived the crash. because of the speed of the plane at impact, they found no body and declared him presumed dead. It was because of this designation that the MIA community made the bracelets.

His widow, my wife, was satisfied that the USMC did all they could to secure the crash site and determine Lt Nelson' status.

Hope this helps

I was stationed at Chu Lai with Lt Nelson. I remember the day he didn't return to base. Even tho I was only a L/cpl we were all friends. Lt Nelson was a friend to all who knew him. I was helping in supply and had the duty of packing up his belongings and shipping them. I really don't remember where the address was, but I was from Tallahassee, and it hit home. Lt Jan was always friends with the enlisted ;and that meant a lot to us peons. He was a Super friend, Super pilot, and forever a Super Marine.....Semper Fi......Sir..... Keep 'em flying in heaven!
