In reading these posts, I would say that this is an attempt to strum up business - who wouldn't.. Plato's closet is a franchise - they have money to advertise advertise advertise and that they do! Unfortunately the small fry's have to work 10 times as hard to get the word out that they may be just as good or MUCH BETTER! The "pay for clothing" routine has been out there for a LONG time - well before Plato's came to town.... I remember 1993 when the HIP HOP SHOP did the "pay out" thing -(they were downtown St. Pete before it was even built up) and then OFF THE RACK (I think it has been there just as long) but definately longer than PLATO'S. I have been to several (personally Plato's is a bit annoying - long wait (time is money), and I do not believe they pay what they advertise)- OFF THE RACK pays fair and you don't have the attitude or the wait that you have at Plato's... I prefer cash over waiting (for consignment)... I always found that I had an allergic reaction after being in Plato's or Once upon a child.. Good to form your own opinions though - nothing is better than checking it out and experiencing something for yourself to make a judgement!
Oh - just a small add in... I just noticed what posts were saying about fakes... If you knowingly sell a fake - you are liable in the eyes of the law (so seriously, if you take in a fendi bag that says "made in china" -- guess what -- it is FAKE... Fakes support terrorism and sweat-shops -- think about that before taking a profit on the sale of a fake!

They both Ashley's and Plato's are over priced. If you go to Aero you can buy a brand new shirt that is REAL for less than what you can at Ashley's or Plato's! Also I rather spend my money at a real shop buying something I no that is real and new. Not used and to worry about what it is made out of and who has worn it. You no they don't wash the clothes so who knows what is in them. I have been to both and I won't ever go back! I'll stick to the stores in the mall or online stores! Note I am NOT rich but I rather get something good for my money!:)

First off "Care", before you go ranting and raving about someone else make sure you read their post correctly, seeing how your a teacher in Florida's education system,(which by the way needs a reform) the person you are responding to never said anything about "capitalization" they were talking about capitalism. Just thought you needed to know that.

ummm....Plato's Closet is not a consignment shop. Maybe you need to know what you are talking about before you talk negative about someone else’s opinions...which is just what that was...it was an opinion about how Plato's Closet is a great store. And I agree! I have been to consignment shops around Florida and place's like Ashley's Closet and Plato's Closet and I definitely prefer the business model of Ashley's Closet and Plato's Closet better, but I do prefer, overall, and love Plato's. They are very professional in the way they buy clothing and sell clothing. Also, I've been in 5 different Plato's Closets around the state and the people who work in all those stores are very friendly and nice, even when they don't buy a thing I drop off and even if I don't choose to buy anything from them. I've been in Ashley's Closet two times and didn't feel welcome. Here are a handful of negative things I didn’t like about Ashley's Closet just after two visits...
-I stopped by at 7:15 pm one evening because the Open sign was lit up and it turned out that the door was locked to the store. I understand closing early if business is slow (close time was 8:00 pm), but at least have the courtesy of turning the Open sign off. The lights were on inside and I knocked and looked in but I couldn’t see anyone. I was going to tell them that the Open sign was still on, but I didn’t care to wait another second because they clearly don’t care about their customers.
-When I did go back to try to sell clothing, I walked in and no one was behind the counter or around the sales floor. I said “Hello” a few times and eventually a lady emerged from the back walking towards me and didn’t say a word as she had an ice pop (I think) in her mouth.
-I had to say the first word and shared that I was there to try to sell clothing. Once again, the lady didn’t say a word to me and then started looking at my clothing.
-I walked around the store and eventually I noticed that the lady started to put clothing out on the sales floor, so I assumed she was finished looking at my clothing. Now, I know at Plato’s, they have a mechanical way to look at clothing and it takes at least 5 minutes to go through a Publix shopping bag. I had a garbage bag full and the lady was done in 5 minutes. So, I walked up to the counter and finally the lady spoke to me. She said she couldn’t buy anything and I was perfectly alright with that. But overall, I wasn’t perfectly alright that I didn’t feel welcome in her store. And by looking at the prices, conditions, and ages of the items, let alone the customer service, in her store, I can promise you I will not be back ever again to Ashley’s Closet.
…Oh, and just so you know, I have a Masters degree in Education, and I have learned that when it comes to “causal” conversation online, capitalization and spelling do not matter, but in the real world, treating people, ie customers, with common decency is appreciated. Oh how I love to incorporate by own “decency” with this message. Haha! Go Plato’s! J

Do you people really feel that passionately about where you buy your dicount jeans? I've been to Plato's Closet and I didn't like the smell of the place at all. It was kind of like a moth ball/dryer sheet smell. Plus the customer service wasn't great.
