We've all been hearing about all the brsnds of dog foods which have been recalled, so please do all of us dog owners a great big favor.

Let us know if there are any at all which are considered to be SAFE??? For a while all dry food was supposed to be OK. Is that still true??? Will anyone let us know THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS STORY, PLEASE.

Question 2. How is a person supposed to know if the "store brands" are safe, and whether or not they were manufactured by that same company.

And another question, "Will anyone let us know when and if a nice new pretested batch of dog food will be availble?? I'm cooking sausages and vegetables for my dog, because I don't want her to get sick and die.

Last, but definitely NOT least, how in the world did one particular company start manufacturing all those different brands with labels saying they come from all different parts of the country from a supposed company up in Canada that was making 80 or 90 brands. SOMETHING SOUNDS MIGHTY FISHY ABOUT THAT.

I'll be watching at eleven o'clock. Please, if you can, set my mind, and thousands of other pet owners at rest if you are able.

Thanks a lot from Barbara bouncybarbara@excite.com

The FDA says it does not know? That is preposterous. This wheat gluten supposedly was "food grade" indicating it could also be marketed for human consumption. As of today, there are still cans of Alpo Cuts and Gravy still on retailers shelves, with many retailers indicating they were unaware of the Alpo recall. This pet food fiasco is a sham, once again botched by our Government. This toxic wheat gluten was known of back in December, and here we are four months later and "unaware" of whether it's entered human food products?

Had this been a deliberate poisoning, and we do not know entirely is it not, and had this been a test, we here in the US of A have once again failed, as we did with Katrina.

The apathy and ignorance of the Federal Government as well as the pet food industry in taking four months to stop this in it's tracks is a disgrace.

Once again, our Leaders have been caught with their pants down. Bill Clinton and Monica, we cannot condone but we can understand. What's the Bush administrations excuse?

Two of my dogs got sick with liver disease about a year ago.
at the same time Diamond Dog food was contaminated with moldy corn. Whats interesting is my dogs didn't eat diamond dog food . They ate Nutro Dog
food. I can't prove it but I will always believe the Nutro was contaminated too. One of my dogs fully recovered. The other dog continues to suffer with chronic liver problems. So here we are again.Rockey the dog that recovered has been on science diet since the liver thing.Buster has been on (Hills prescription l/d )because of the chronic liver problem. I have always fed my dogs what I thought was the better quality food because I
wanted them to be as healthy as possible. Now I see the top
brands buy their ingredients the same place as the lesser quality food. Now Hill's prescription food is on the list. Today I went to the grocery store and bought Chicken,Brown Rice ,Plain yogurt, and other items. I will make my own dog food from now on. I hope other people will do the same until there are regulations put into place to protect our pets. What since does it make to ban a product in this country and then buy products from another country that uses the product that the USA ban.

I called the makers of Pedigree dog food today because can Pedigree dog food also contains wheat gluten. I was assured that the wheat gluten in their products are safe. When I asked where they get their w. gluten I was told it was from a US supplier. When I asked where the US supplier obtains their w. gluten I was put on hold in order for the customer service representative to find out.
When she returned to the phone she told me in so many words that the information I was requesting was NOT public information. So, what does that tell you? Their products could also be deadly to our animals. Will they be next on the recall list? If their product is safe why can't they disclose their w. gluten supplier so a consumer can do futher research.

What about our troops. People need to get their priorities right. How many soldiers were injured or killed in combat while we are worried about fluffy. It amazes me how people fight for all the wrong things. I love my pets but I love my kids more!!!

... but the terrorists!!!

Anyway, Tampa Bay's 10 -- stop editing the headlines to appear more alarming than they are. This story broke late Friday/Saturday and changing the headline to "MORE Petfood added!" is downright alarmist and serves only for people to click a story again to read the same, outdated copy.

I used to be employeed by Halo "purely for Pets". I can agree their food is amazing and it does work and it will keep your pet healthy. "It promotes great health." - thats what their customer service reps will tell you. On the other hand. They are making so much profit off of the canned food and all of their products that it sickens me. They have a Spots Stew Recipe you can make at home. I do that. They pay their employees crap- while they are making millions of dollars. Ask them why they charge high dollar amounts since a can only costs them $2 to make at their plant and they sell it for $6!$4 profit on one can alone. When I was employeed there I was able to get employee discount off of wholesale price(the price the stores buy it at). Now I am not employeed there anymore, thank god. I am just making it known that they are making a very high profit on people for a bad reason. They make people feel bad about the food they feed their pets and then get them to get their pets on spots stew. It is great food along with the supplements. Don't buy the canned spots stew, make it at home and you will save a fortune. That company has no heart, nor does andi brown. I am so glad I walked out of that place when I did.

Thank you for stating the obvious. Animals are living things just like us. How would you like to eat dead and diseased animal meat everyday????

With the companies now admitting that they can't be 100% sure that this contaminated wheat gluten didn't make it into products for human consumption is very alarming. I'm scared enough of feeding my animals bad food...now we have to worry about our food is safe for myself and my kids. And no matter who you contact, you can't get a straight answer. It seems like we need some answers from our government. How is it that high priced brands that claim to be so much better for our animals contain the same ingredients, and come from the same place that produce generic brands. Why pay more than? Could somone post a make at home recipe?

I currently work for Halo and I can't believe what I just read. Andi Brown has been one of the most caring great employers that I am shocked anyone could say anything different!
When it comes to profit, business is business. I don't know numbers to confirm but Andi founded this company on her love for pets. NOT FOR MONEY! The employee discount is much more then wholesale pricing. Which the employee discount is still offered to any past employee of Halo dispite their reasons for leaving. I have never even heard of a company that offers that. I love working for Halo, I love what the products have done for my own pet, and I am grateful that I am an employee here.

I currently am an employee of Halo and I agree that companies are out there to make money, how else would they be able to continue doing business? For 20 years Halo has been in business, don't you think that if a company was only looking to make money that they would more nationally known therefore comprimising the quality of their ingredients. To those that say they can't get a straight answer from anyone as to where their ingredients come from, how many companies have you called? I also have the recipe to make Halo food at home but with several animals, it's hard to keep up with it. What other pet food company is so sure about their food that they would hand out the recipe? I don't see Natural Balance or Nutro doing that.
Many ingredient labels look the same, but have you ever seen the word 'meal' by FDA definition that is the same as 'by-product'. But they still say natural etc on their packaging. People can put anything on their labels to make it look good whether it's true or not until their products are tested and then pulled from the shelf and that can take years.
Again, what other owner of pet food company in the whole world would write a book with recipes of her own products for pet parents to make at home to save themselves money?

Animals are helpless they depend on us. This is a stupid comment that you made. What does one thing have to do with the other. Just because there is a war going on does not mean that we should not be concerned for our pets health. Animals don't start wars...people do.

My name is Kathy and I have a sick cat. Her name is Lilly and she is the best baby. She recently became really ill, and the vets at the emergency clinic pulled her through. The only problem is that they are prescribing prednisone and antibiotics, for autoimmune disease. I am wanting to go the natural route. If anyone knows of a homeopathic physician in the Pinellas area please let me know.
Thank you.

I do not want to keep my girl on the antibiotics and prednisone prescribed by the vet. I am so thankful that they were able to pull her through, the emgergency vets are awesome, but there has to be an all natural solution to this problem.
If you could be of any help I would appreciate it.
