Any of us who were Samy's closest friends knew that Samy DID NOT cheat on Matt. Matt was an obsessive freak who found a phone # on her bill that he didn't recognize. When he called it a guy answered. That guy lived in MD. She was in Florida! He beat her to the point where she said "yeah Matt, fine, I cheated on you". He was holding her hostage beating her and telling her he wouldn't let her out of the house until she admitted she cheated on him. But she hadn't. When in the hell would she have had time to anyway. While Matt sat on his lazy ass playing Madden 07, living off the $2,000 a month his daddy was sending him, Samy was going to school FULL TIME. She also worked 2 to 3 part time jobs while attending school. She did not cheat on Matt, that was all in his whacked out head. I know because I am one of her closest friends. She told me everything. I was also on the receiving end of many of Matt's rants. As for his parents...yes his father works hard. He worked extremely hard to cover for his son. They were fully aware of his actions and didn't care about Samy's safety as long as he was in Florida and not staying at their home. They paid him alot of money to stay away from their home and become someone elses problem. I know this because Samy's mom had several conversations with Matt's dad. She told him Matt was stalking Samy. She even called out of concern from Matt when she spoke to him and he sounded suicidal. But the worthless scumbag didn't kill himself, he took Samy's life instead. And what was "Mr. Father of Year" Dieterle's response???? He was upset that girls today find it so easy to pick up the phone and call the police not taking into consideration that it could ruin someones life!!!! Mr. Dieterle is a piece of shit! Someone's life is ruined...someone who had promise, and so much love to give. Someone who lit up the room with her smile. Someone who would have made this world a little better...Samy! And all of her friends and family are left grieving and wondering WHY???

MENTAL ILLNESS, DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH! STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR HIM! HE HAS NO ILLNESSES! LET HIM ROT IM PRISON FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! WITH NO CHANCE OF PAROLE, THAT IS EVEN TOO EASY OF A SENTENCE FOR HIM, BECAUSE HE GETS TO LIVE, HOPEFULLY HE WILL SUFFER EACH DAY IN PRISON THE SAME WAY HE MURDERED MY SAMY!

I agree. This is a terrible tragedy. No matter what the circumstance, no matter who you blame, a young girl has tragicly lost her life. I didn't know Samy, but she sounds like a wonderful person. My heart goes out to both families. I am in no way defending the crime, just the parents , some of the best people I know. Being the parents of a criminal is not a crime. You all can say what you want, but in the end, it is our opinion that is being posted. My opinion is that the Dieterles (the parents, that is) are great people and I am just trying to stand up for them. It is undeniably a horrible time in both families' lives. But, the MacQuilliam family has lost a beloved member. You are in my thoughts and prayers. And I do hope that the murderer pays for his actions to the fullest extent of the law.
DIETERLE WILL PAY, AND I HOPE HE SPENDS THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PRISON AND SUFFERS EACH DAY THE SAME WAY MY SAMY DID!

samy didnt deserve this, but she should of got away from him , you cant fix a man i wish these younger girls would stop thinking that! he did it to his previous girlfriends but i guess she thought she was differnt. and she was crazy over matt, i saw it. maybe not after they moved but while they were in crofton i know plenty of times sammy got jealous and acted out on the other person, i am not sure if she acted out on matt but......i am a man and i would never be able to touch a female. this is just crazy i never saw matt doing this! he was a friend of mine but when he stared dating sammy he just stopped hanging out. i am sorry for everyones pain, nothing will heal the wounds but time!
and as far as his parents......they are not to blame, you do everything for your child, not saying matt is a child but you do everything for them, to keep them out of trouble. they were great parents! matt is at fault not his parents! i pray for both families!

samantha macquilliam's family will never be the same. They are devasted. I am a good friend of samy's dad and grandmother. It has been heart-wrenching for me to watch and feel what they are going through. Matt is a poor soul--when i first met him at Samy's dad's house, he creeped me out--but I never told Samantha or her dad. She was In Love with him and just wanted to start a life with him. Matt never worked--his parents paid for his rent and expenses--I blame everyone but most of all myself for not telling people how I felt about this very evil young man. I'm sick about it all the time...I visit sam's garden (her gravesite) and try to understand--I am having a tough time with all of this.
Once close to Matt

I was once close to Matt during our teen years. He was a disturbed individual and I'm sure being adopted ( and all that came with that situation )was a huge factor in his life. I hung out at his house ALOT and his parents are VERY NICE people. However I can't believe how much they helped him out over the years. He was SO mean to them all the time, he did horrendous things yet financially and later legally them went to some extent to help him out. I don't understand it at all. A kid caught up in rap music, drugs, drug dealing, carrying a gun..overall trying to be "thug"...that was Matt...coupled with a very disturbed individual was sad to see and I was indifferent if not happy about him not being in my life at about the age of 16-17. After that i just heard random things about Matt, none good and eventually about a year ago, this murder charge. First off I am very sad for Sam's family and friends... no words can do it justice so I will leave it at that.
I found this site by just searching the web, interested in how things are progressing, and see some back and forth about to blame or not to blame Matt's parents. I think plenty of blame is to go around. Let's not forget the Judge in Maryland who let Matt off with a "slap on the wrist." That is unbelievable. Blame his parents if you want, they are nice people but are defending a horrible person and I can't believe it. DO NOT forget about the Judge who failed miserabely ( here's a quip from an article below)
The following October, Circuit Court Judge Joseph P. Manck decided to sentence Dieterle concurrently for the separate incidents over the two-day span. The result was a sentence of four years in prison and five years of supervised probation.
Manck then suspended all but 18 months of the sentence and allowed work-release. Manck released Dieterle after serving only 14 months, commuting the rest of the sentence to house arrest, according to court records

You are absolutely correct....Judge Manck and the Maryland Court systems played a huge part in the murder of Samy MacQuilliam. It's disgusting that they do not have to be held responsible. However, in the end, it was Matt's dad who lied in a letter to the court to get Matt released from parole so he could follow Samy to Florida. He should pay too!!

I have a daughter her age. I miss her and i pray her family has been able to move forward. Rest in peace Angel Sam.
