I totally understand your feelings but why are you kids out so late and trying to cross the deadliest street in Florida? Why not call a parent to pick you up? Where you where you should not have been. My point is my 12 year old is in the house when the street lights come on. No need for a watch or and excuse of "I didn't know what time it was!" You and your brother should have been home safe with your parents. Please do not take my words in a negative fashion. When I read the story the first thing I think about is "What if that was my child?" May your brother rest in peace. If anything, hopefully you have learned something from this loss. I am sorry you had to experience this loss. Just keep in your heart that he is with God now and he will be watching over you as your guardian angel. May god bless your family in this terrible time of loss.

With this being a child, SOMEHOW the driver will be charged. Who should be charged is the PARENTS. What is a 12 y.o. kid doing running around on US 19 at 11 at night?!?!?!? Negligence on the part of the parents, pure and simple.
Kids will be kids and if you notice, it is the summertime, the kids lived across the street and many people cross US 19 daily and many die from doing it. Most of which ADULTS, no matter what happened or who YOU want to blame Gio is not here. It is not going to bring him back SOOO have some symphathy for the family they just lost there son. Don't be pointing the finger at them if you don't know the whole situation!!!!

some of you people are so ignorant. a little boy lost his life crossing the street. you might not let your kids walk across the street. but im sure theres other things you let your kids do that isnt right. a family still till this day is suffering cause there child is gone. you think they dont wish their child wasnt walking across that street. have some respect. im sure if it was someone you loved you wouldnt be so rude about it. now would you. watch what you say karma is alive and well. when something horable happens to you. dont expect anyone to have sympathy for you.

I'm 16, my niece was in the same 5th grade class as gio. He was supposed to be graduating from elementary school tomorrow. My niece was really close to him and everyone in his class cried together today. why not stop trying to blame people and just show our respects? He was a 12 year old child. rest in peace.
Amen i played on gio's soccer team and my whole club of 30 kids and parents went to his funeral its sad i just wish he was back.. rest in peace and god bless maximo and maria...

I'm deeply saddened to hear about this tragic event.
I do hope that EVERYONE has learned from this tragedy. Lesson for the children is: DO NOT cross a busy street at night or anytime of the day. Drivers can NOT see you until they've hit you, then it's too late. Please be more careful.
Lesson for the parents is: Know where your children are at all times. If they are out with their friends, have them call you every hour to let you know what they're doing. If they are some place that will be dangerous for them to get home, go get them. I know that children don't always do what they are told, but if you love them, you will make sure they are safe at all times. I know that the parents must be thinking these things right now. How they wish they would have known where they were and could have protected them. But, now it's too late. The child is gone. Very sad. My heart goes out to the family and friends of this 12 year old child. I am very sorry for your loss.

i knew that kid. in my classroom everyone was crying when he was gone, we had ceremony. gio died the last weekend of school.1 more day and he wouldve graudated fifth grade.what people dont get is that children need freedom i understand that a 12 year old should not be out that late but still if he was cautious it problably wouldve never happened i know the groups of kids that were with him when he died they arnt the best kids but they stuck together rip gio

I FEEL WORSE FOR THE POOR PERSON THAT HIT HIM. HIS LIFE IS RUINED BY THE CARELESS ACTS OF THIS KID. THAT SECTION OF 19 IS NOT A CROSSING AREA. IT'S WALLED AND 10 LANES OF HIGHWAY. NO CROSSING AND ITS ILLEGAL TO DO SO. SO NOW THE POOR GUY THAT HIT HIM WILL SUFFER FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE THANKS TO CARELESS PARENTS AND STUPID KIDS. HE DIDNT HIT HIM ON THE SIDE, BUT IN THE VERY CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY. THANK GOD HE DIDNT HIT MORE OF THE KIDS THAT WERE PLAYING IN THE ROAD. YES PLAYING. THE EYE WITNESS SAID "THEY WERE PLAYING CHICKEN IN THE ROAD". SO WHY SO LATE AT NIGHT WITHOUT PARENTS. ISNT THERE A LAW ABOUT PARENTAL LIABILITY. HE SHOULD SUE THE PARENTS FOR THEIR INACTION FOR WHAT THIS POOR MAN HAS TO LIVE WITH!!!!!!
