Why must we tolerate this everyday rudeness of the Hammock Dunes bridge toll plaza? Who hires these idiots? If they're so miserable, give the job to someone who not only needs it but enjoys his or her job. I'd rather drive to next exit than put up with this rudeness.

I agree with you, Everytime I go thru the toll booth , men and women working there are rude. I checked on who they hire there, it's just the rich people at Hammock Dunes thats retired , they only hire them . I guess the rich people want something to do. They should be hiring people that need a job, Not some rich, rude, bored person that don't need $7.50 a hour. What a joke.

I do not use the bridge to often but I never encountered a rude person. I have a sticker but I roll down my car window and greet the person in the booth. We exchange best wishes for the day and everything is fine.

I agree. This morning my husband and I were travelling together in separate vehicles. My husband has a toll card and I do not. He said he would pay for my toll. I approached the toll booth first and told the lady my husband was directly behind me and was paying my toll. She got all upset and said I already rang you up and I cannot do that. I told her nevermind I would pay cash. She said no just go. I continued to say no I will pay cash. She again said just go. I left and was very upset. First of all, how could she have already rung me up if she didn't know how I was going to pay (Card or cash). Secondly, I go through this ridiculously high priced toll bridge 5x per week. (Yes I haven't purchased a card yet -- but that is not the point). I DO NOT expect this treatment. There are many folks that would love this no brainer job. GET RID OF THESE MEAN FOLKS.

Yup also have had experiences of rude toll takers. I went through a few mornings ago and i gave the man a 20 dollar bill. He kept sighing and kept asking if i had smaller change, even though, more then once i said i was sorry i did not. I actually had to go to the ATM to withdraw the money that morning just to get over the bridge, and i told him this. He said "you really cant expect us to break such large bills. Next time you need to have exact change" in a very nasty way. Excuse me!!??? Its actually your JOB to break my change..i defiantly dont want to be paying this toll at all, so do us both a favor..for those of us that are passing through to go to rich ppls homes and work for squat an hour..dont bother charging us. There we are both happy now.:)

did you happen to notice if they were from New York or New Jersey - oh, they are awful - why don't they go somewhere else and retire. Good grief, they are rude!!!

It has been 2yrs since I last posted and nothing has changed at the tolls. They still are rude toll collectors working there. I have worked with tourists, for 10 yrs in St Augustine and have done customer service . And these people need to go to training to know how to treat the customers.

They are like postal workers or gov't workers. Can't fire them and they know it. They don't care - they collect their paycheck - next time give them pennies.

I have not had the rude experience however, I am sick and tired of paying this toll! I have been paying this toll since the bridge was built - I remember the opening celebration held under the bridge when it was done. My children were quite young and are now quite grown. Surely it has been paid for by now?!

I've usually had good experiences with the toll takers on the bridge---they've been friendly and polite. But today, when trying to get information on obtaining a new sticker for an additional vehicle, my husband and I encountered a VERY rude man who was neither helpful NOR friendly. The Dunes info. office was closed and he told us as if we should have the hours tattooed onto our arms. I'd really like to go further with my complaint if anyone knows who to contact.
And...for the record, I am from Brooklyn, New York and yes, some New Yorkers and people from ALL different states can be seen as rude or pushy but I am not nor was I to the toll taker. I should have found out where he was from but does it really matter? He was rude!

Dear ABC, yes it does matter. When hiring for that position consideration should be made for the history of the person seeking the job. There are just locations that "breed" rudeness and if they are not intentionally rude they are by conditioning.
I will have to add Ct. to that list Mr. Brooklyn.

I have crossed that bring since it opened back in 1988 and have yet to have a rude employee at the toll or in the office.

ABC, don't worry about where they came from because it doesn't matter. I have met some people from NC that have been just as rude as someone from NY. It has all to do with upbringing, not what state they're from. The state they are from also doesn't dictate ones upbringing. I do find that the comment made by katie is rude, so I guess i'm correct by saying that there are rude people in every state. LOL

I can not believe the. negative comments about the toll bridge employees. I have used the bridge since 2003 and never had a negative experience. Perhaps the negatives are coming from drivers who are rude. Pleasantness is a two way street.
