Spoke with my son late last night and their power had been out since late afternoon. He lives west of I-95 and there were fires in the area. Wish I could tell you more.

Your house is pretty close to the fire zone: DeGroodt/San Filippo & Cogan and today at Grant Rd and Babcock.

My daughter and her children live on Candy Lane in Malabar, only a couple miles from Palm Bay. Her neighbor is part of the volunteer fire force. They have been on evacuation alert for the last couple days and were without electricity until late last night. They also have had no internet access since the fire increased. The fire was originally across the other side of Candy Lane, their street, about half a mile. The soot and ashes are everywhere and the air quality is horrific. They can see not only the smoke, but the ashes and flames from their house. From what I understand, it was thought the fire in that area at least, was starting to be under control, but in the last couple hours it has increased again, and now they are surrounded on 3 sides with fire and smoke...it is hard to get in and out of the area due to fire fighting efforts in the area. Of course, all the neighbors have been packing their things and preparing for evacuation. The helicopters from surrounding areas are dropping water, and sand, and whatever in hopes of deterring the fires from spreading more. There is a constant flow of air traffic doing this. The neighbors are hosing down their homes and rooftops, though the air quality to go out and do that is a serious deterrant. I was just able to speak with my daughter and granddaughter a few minutes ago, to get this latest update. Please pray for the residents of this area and for the firefighting men and women who are mostly all volunteers. One good thing is the acts of kindness in the community between neighbors has been brought out in this tragedy as they offer to help each other.

update to candy lane, malabar, fl fires. just spoke with my daughter who lives on candy lane. an hour ago fire was surrounding her house in the woods on 3 sides. she just reported that it all seems to be under control in that area, with hardly any smoke and no visible flames. there has been much air activity as well as much volunteer and citizen fire control help for last few hours. this is the best its been since sunday.

Quinn St is fine..fires hit palomar up to Cogan on corner of your road. Also fires covered across San Fillipo parallel to your road. A few homes in the area did burn although most have fire lines upto a foot of the home but many homes saved..thanks to the great job done by firefighters.
