I have read and heard stories about how easily this can be done, with one stroke of the computer and the VA has NO justification for this. Their system is outdated and to prevent this in the future, the VA NEEDS TO TAKE HOLD of situations like this. All it takes is one angry wife to call and report her husband, x-husband or boyfriend as dead and the wheels are in motion. Investigating this AFTER THE FACT does not do the veteran any good. He/she is the one who has to fight to prove differently and in the meantime, all records are screwed!
I worked at a VA and I know how easily it is to click the computer as an outside death. This was part of my job and all it took was a phone call from anyone who reported the veterans death. Even the newspapers require more paperwork to print an obituary, why not the VA?

He has NO income and gets bills from the VA for past income $94,000.00 - come on four times?
Yes happends almost daily and yes all it takes in one phone call or someone at the VA to inter the wrong SS number and your gone!
It take months to years to get back what you lost in money / medical care / lose of your home / car and the list goes on and on
I say it should be proof of death / via a Dr where you died and paper work = death certifi

How do you enforce this? I would only trust the death certificate. I know the newspapers verify with the mortuary before they print. I used to verify death causes with health dept who used to do death certificates but now I hear it is Sacramento. Seems the paperwork trail is getting harder to enforce or trace.

He looks young to be a Vietnam Vet. Maybe he's the dead vets son.
