Akitas can be tricky dogs. My friend Rick had one, Maggie, who was a doll most of the time, unless she did not like you. Then watch out. But mostly it was subtle things, or she would just ignore you.

The Akita use to be the number one biting dog. This is not a dog to have around children. This dog is a lot like the chow, it bites without any warning... with someone who knows what they are doing, this dog can be a well behaved animal, you have to establish that you are alpha with this dog. I have trained dogs for many years. I would never let a small child around a pit bull and carrying a permit for concealed weapon.. I would shoot immediately if a pit bull came within 4 feet of one of my grand children,, if u have ever watched this breed attack a child it is something that will haunt you for the rst of your life... this year alone.. Pit bulls have killed 74 people.
the akita was never the no. one biting dog....please stop with the misinformation.

the top number of dog bites actually come from smaller breeds. the dog bites of larger dogs are just sensationalized.
why is it that in Japan, the Akita acts as a babysitter or police dog? the properly trained akita loves the children within its household and as for biting without warning...that is BS. i know my dog and she has never bitten another human being...she has bitten a rott that was off leash that was showing agression towards me and her. her entire body went into attack mode like a lion, and it is quite obvious when it happens.

the akita is nothing like a Chow...i can attest to having owned a dog grooming business and that is the ONLY breed that we would not groom.

you train dogs yet would shoot a pitbull that would come near you. please disclose the name of your dog training camp.

Given the number of PERVOS floating the streets these-dayz there IS a "family self_defense" issue. A well trained NBK will defend (young)family members against attack ... to be balanced against the serious risk of SLASHER_JAWS going postal.

Those risks seem balanced to me ... tipping in favor of the NBK "watchdog". Yep I pig-hunt with bricks and I understand they are noones pal.

It is not the dogs fault anymore than it would be a pitbulls fault if it was the focus of this story. Domesticated animals are the direct result of what we do. I can gaurantee that I can tell you the pedigree on this dog. Breeders are responsible because they knowingly breed aggresive dogs. The owner is soley responsible for this incident because she knew the dogs was aggresive and she took to a dog show where the dog was going to be surrounded by dogs and people. The dog did not ask to be born bred or brought to that dogshow. Is your cat responsible for using the rug next to the cat box or is it your fault for not cleaning the box out. It is impossible to blame an animal for the actions of irresponsible people.

<quoted text>How is it not partly the dogs fault. Did the owner command the dog to attack? Was the dog sensing that a 70 year old woman was going to attack? If this were her child attacking the woman, would it not be their fault because the mother didn't train them "not to attack". It isn't necessarily the breed of the dog, but that particular dogs temperament. Sounds like he is not suitable as a "pet". Either way, he has no business out in public, and sure as hell shouldn't have been at a dog show! But, it sounds like, unless she plans to keep him isolated, something like this would have happened eventually.

pitbulls are all black people breeds and every humane society you go to you see like 233241235 of them waiting to get put down. they're a nuisance just like their smelly black owners. i say get a blood hound! find them coons!

Akita's are from Japan.
A pit/bully is a lot more predictable than Akitas
and German Shepards.
My homeowners ins. policy had a list of 8 breeds
that I could'nt own ( without voiding the policy).
Akitas and German Shepards were 2 of them.
A pit more predictable than an Akita, I would really dispute that,I own Akita`s & have been attacked by pits & have NO fear of ANY dog,I WILL WIN that battle! Pits my go after almost anything & people ARE on that list.. Akitas can be dog agressive & if they do get after a person you can BET THERE IS A REASON!! A pair of pits attacked the bike I was riding & took a full grown man off the bike & only let me go because I got up & fought & WON!!!! If it had been a kid, I can only say I would be going hunting!! A few scrapes & I was OK, they come up & bit the back of the front tire & we went down in a heap & come up fighting for my life!!
