I left foster care at 15 and rented my own apartment, while working at Thomason (UMC) and going to school. When it was too much, I went for my GED and I took an EMT class. 14 years later, I'm a single mom, paying my bills, not on welfare, continue to help patients and have the respect and love of my daughter. Shame on you people that think that CPS cannot help these children. They give you the tools, it's how you use them.
What tools did CPS give you? I am really curious, I want to know.

We have been looking for a CPS success case for 10 years and haven't found one yet.

Are you a CPS success case? Or did you somewhere along the line pick up the DRIVE to succeed from a relative or mentor?

We have never seen anybody involved with CPS who knew anything but the malicious use of the Poison Pen and practiced Law (threats) and Medicine without a license (dope kids out of their heads).

Many people call themselves "social worker" especially in this town. I have a M.S.W. and can legally tell you that its been an uphill battle for this kid from the beginning. Teachers are pathetic in this town as well. Self-rightious SOB's on this thread. This guy will make it with support, guidance, and help. He should be given all the support as any other kid and more. This is the kind of person who needs a temporary break with housing, food stamps, bus transportation, financial aide, all that he should have. Fk all you who have no compassion. May you burn in hell.

So "Another SW" what do YOU know about fishing. You became a Social Worker because you weren't bright enough to become a Psychiatrist.
Go to any college that has a Social Work and Psychiatry courses -- The stupidest kids on campus are ALWAYS the Social Work and Psychiatry majors.
The problem is- knowing how to learn and WORK is a lost skill.

PLEASE do not judge "social workers" by the moron who posted. Most of us are compassionate and well educated in mental health. Hopefully if you do have the resources, you will extend yourself to him as well. Thank You.

The comments here are dumb-founding.
"Social Worker"- Way to go on the typical snide, insolent remarks. This kid is EXACTLY what CPS intends for kids- Be life-long consumers of government services.
"Teacher"- Way to go on the condescension. Schools are doing NOTHING towards teaching kids any job skills or even HOW to learn something.
"Joe"- With no diploma or GED, kids CANNOT join the "all volunteer" military.
"TSM"- Our culture teaches kids nothing but sex, violence, laziness, and narcissism. The idea of controlling your destiny is a foreign concept.
Creating failure is what the entire CPS system is about. It is being done deliberately. They are utterly evil.

On another note. This particular young man has been through some drama in his life and he can't maintain friendships. He needs some mental health services to deal with his issues or he will forever need the support of government programs.
YOU are not a MSW licensed SW, I can tell. You are nothing but a judgemental piece of crap. If you were truly educated you would know that adolescense psychologically lasts until the mid-twenties. May you burn in hell with your teacher counterpart. I hope life serves you a devestating curve you had no responsibility for and watch you whine. May you choke on your own vomit.

Leonard, Deborah Chavez was my caseworker. She made me believe in myself when others, including my family, gave up on me. My court appointed lawyer, who is now the judge of the 383rd, told me I was smarter than what I gave myself credit for, and could be anything I wanted to be. I did pick things up from the streets to survive, but their words and encouragement have motivated me through the years. The Runaway Shelter was another place where I found comfort and love. Please don't bag the system, not all SW are burnt out idiots, most are, but there are good peole that work within the system, I'm proof.

All because his mother was a worthless piece of crap. I feel for these young people who have no family structure and support. Yes, he made some bad choices but until you have been in the same situation as he, you should not judge nor criticize. You need to have some compassion and little mor humility. I would not name myself a "Social Worker" if you lack understanding for these situations. Maybe you are a self proclaimed "social worker" because you sure don't sound like someone who was taught otherwise.

You have no idea how stressed out and overworked CPS workers are, and how much effort they put in to try and prevent kids from falling into these situations. Social workers are by FAR the most underpaid and unappreciated workers in our society, since so much of what they do goes on behind the scenes. If you think being a teacher requires patience and caring about helping children, multiply that by 10x and you'll get a social worker. Yes, there are a few incompetent ones as there are in any profession, but for the most part they are a class act. But yes, the system itself needs a review to see how to curb these failure rates.
And judging by your website you have a sever misunderstanding of the CRC and its aims. You sound like one of those conspiracy theorists who think the UN will take parents to world court and try them at the Hague.
CPS workers SHOULD be stressed out, because they daily commit Federal Crimes, several of which are Capital offenses.

http://familyrights.us/bin/CPS_violates_these...

The system needs to be sued out of existence. NOTICE TO LAWYERS- These insolent monsters have Malpractice Insurance.

I think perhaps YOU misunderstand the CRC. Please see my old editorial "Best interest of the child- A new "Civil Right"

http://familyrights.us/news/archive/2009/oct/...

I don't get into conspiracy theories. The facts are spooky enough by themselves.

CPS is an utter FRAUD.

You are a poor excuse for a human being......I truly hope you are not a REAL teacher. Have you ever been homeless? Have you ever felt hopeless? Obviously not. You must of been born perfect and independent. Must be a first. I can tell you have no humility much less compassion. I am sure somewhere in your pathetic life someone gave you a hand but with your mentality you probablay thought it was expected with your righteous attitude.

Sir, if I were this man, I would rather eat out of the trash than serve in the U.S. Military. Might as well sign your death certificate for a very unworthy cause!!!!

Mr. Palacios, I pray that you can find your way in this very disruptive world we live in. It seems there are more ill thought people out there but there are still a few kind people, and if you trust your heart to Jehovah God he will send some your way. Do not let these negative thoughts influence you in the worng way but allow them to encourage you to prove these people wrong. I am sure with a lot of hard work you will persevere. Best of luck and may God help you.

WOW- always wanted to be a teacher, a social worker that drives a GOV to dunkin dougnuts. NOT!!! GOOD PARENTS PRODUCE GOOD PRODUCTIVE CHILDREN!!! THIS SEEMS TO BE MY WORD OF THE DAY- EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION!!! If parents are stupid with no clue, chances are, the trait will be a continuation of the generations. The most innocent and loving beings on this planet are children! They did not ask to be born! Perhaps a BUD, or MILLER, or worse, CRACK BABY! Stupid adults have stupid excuses!
