I competely agree with you,my daddy has worked in the coal mines for 30yrs and along side my mom they have made a great liveing for me and my brother as well as themselves. These people on here putting down coal should shout down their computer and TVs because guess what your useing it.I am a proud hillbilly an a proud coal miners daughter.God has given us a natural source to use this man made shit is starting to get rediculuse granted we have devloped some great useful things. But why spend money on man made energy when for 1 we are already in dept because of the sorry people in the house of representives and for 2 I for one dont want to pass our debts down to our childern and thats already looking like its a great possablity. So why not use the sources that God has givein us and keep the people in Eastern Kentucky in jobs so that their families has a way to provide and help the economy in the area alive. Some of you already know that Eastern Kentucky is looked down upon and I blame the people that get on here an discrimenate their up bringing and their families and I for one say if you dont have nothing good to say dont say anything at all.

If you are from Kentucky, you are most likely related to a miner. I am very proud of anyone who risks their life everyday that is a coal miner. MAY GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

I have nothing against coal miners and coal mining in general. I know many coal miners and it's great that they have a job and they actually do the job to support their families. However, you know as well as I that if coal mining were to completely go under, what would be left around here? NOTHING! Now, if you think about that for a minute, I am young and I would really like life for my kids to be a bit different. I want them to have OPTIONS other than coal mining, drugs, or moving to find a decent job! It's never going to happen around here if there aren't more modern technological, skilled jobs offered like wind and solar power plants, etc. Even before Obama and when there were many more people working in the mines, Kentucky was still one of the most poverty stricken states in the country (poverty stricken = poor). Shouldn't that tell you something? Bring some good jobs and factories, along with it comes better education to teach people how to do the jobs, and years later, we have a better economy for our kids. THINK ABOUT IT...20 years from now, if something doesn't change, all the really ambitious kids who really have a lot to offer will move to another state for better jobs...why not bring the better jobs around here? Let's quit being so stupid, be optimistic about the future, and quit criticizing Obama for being black...around here, that's all it really comes down to anyway, right?

I have nothing against anyone employed by the coal industry. What I AM against...are the people out there who have settled into being a victim their entire lives...and those in their families who have taught them nothing else in life. Kentucky is the third state I have lived in...I've moved around for my career...each time for a promotion. I have NEVER encountered the lack of work ethic that I have seen here. I have met some very respectable, hard working, honest people here. But be honest...there are far MORE victims here than anything else. (Drawing a check...Popping pills...criminal cops / local government...) EDUCATION...not sports...is the key people. Get your kids a good education...stop teaching them to be helpless..(A dusting of snow is NOT an excuse to skip work or not have school) If there are no jobs here that can provide you the things you want in life...then MOVE. Your family will always be your family...you don't HAVE to be here for EVERY SINGLE THING. (Or build your house behind your Mama's for that matter) I could have stayed put where I was born and raised. But i recognized that I would have had to work myself to DEATH just to get by in life. So I chose to leave. I still see my family...not EVERY DAY...but we are still family and we look forward to our next visits even more. Think about it....

You don't think coal mining requires skill? Are you out of your mind? Try crawling back underneath miles of Earth, setting off an explosive charge while supporting your roof and walls, maintaining breathable air, removing precisely what is the fossil fuel and processing it for energy. You probably don't consider that when you flick on your light switch. I just way, way oversimplified coal mining. But, even at that remedial level, it is a highly skilled achievement. I hate it when laborers are underestimated for their skill sets.

You know I think its safe to say that WHAT YOU PUT IN TO YOUR LIFE IS WHAT YOU GET OUT OF IT.Given some people sit on their ass and live off theGovernment,if one dosnt strive to succede in their own life then thats on them.I also agree that more jobs should be brought to the area but like you said that some people have no work ethic. But the people who work in the coal miners should be appauded for their work in the communities they have been the back bone for Eastern Ky.Plus I have childern of my own and a neice an nephew that has been raised by a coal miner and they both have a collage fund.So I guess what Im getting to is that of course all parents wants better for their kids, but its up to us as parents to enstill the value of life and the work ethic.Im a coal miners daughter an I have my own bussiness and do well all because my parents taught me how to succede and what it takes to live comfortably and thats by going to school and doing the best I can possibly do.Its sad that not all children are taught these things. However The coal mines doesnt need to be shut down in order for new developements its clearly known that if the work ethic of some spills over in to the next generation an who wants to bring in Factorys or anything else when it may cost more than what they get out of it.

Tell me how he's the worst we ever had, he didn't get us in this mess. Everybody says we need to fix things but with no suggestion. Then when someone tries to do something, you all complain about that, still with no ideas of your own. Columbus isn't in Ky, so not in the 80%, And read what and how you originally posted and see how stupid that looks. If you still don't see anything wrong, then you're on top of the stupidity list.

I didn't look where the poster was from. Sorry i reread my post and i do see whats wrong, i don't worry about the way i post on here. Im usually in hurry. He's the worst b/c look at all the shit he's wanting to tax higher. Coal, health care. ect.. Come on why tax coal higher? He knew what he was trying to do when he started. He's trying to shut coal mines down. Taxing health care would make it harder on the doc. and on the people. He's not trying to fix anything, he's just trying to make it worse. I can go on and on about him but thats not really what i meant this post to be about

I just moved to Kentucky.....Its sad to say however the stereotypes are true. Most of the people Ive met cannot spell words correctly or use proper grammar. They lack customer service skills and seem to get annoyed when you ask them for help. I wait forever at restaurants and have to send my food back all the time. Kentucky needs serious education and job training. I never met anyone who couldn't read till I came here. I think some people here are nice but the majority haven't got a clue. Im scared to send my son to school here especially after text messaging some adults who spell simple words like TUESDAY....Tusday...I may be a rude Yankee but I'd rather be rude than simple minded.

Wow. I found this because I, too, am wondering why the people in this hell-hole state are so stupid, but wow. YOU stating that others are stupid is laughable. Based on your grammar, spelling, punctuation and especially your ideals; YOU are a prime example of WHY THE PEOPLE IN KY ARE SO STUPID!
I, as well as the rest of the country laugh at you and all the uneducated bible thumpers that blame everything on President Obama and believe the earth is 6k years old. You've proven to be the answer to your own question.
