As a former citizen of Paintsville, I always make a trip back for the Ky Apple Frestival, and for the past 5 years I always say I am not going again, it just gets worse and worse every year! But this year took the "cake". The parade was terrrible, if it had not been for the policiations in the back of pick up trucks throwing out candy, there wouldn[t have been a parade and pick up trucks full of fat kids that were too lazys to walk , there were only two of three floats , and the Shriners, yes they try so hard, but people come on, as many people that come to see the "Rose Bowl of the South" I am sure they were disapointed so bad,As far as Paintsville City school band I thought it was a day care band. I remember when we used to have 20 or 30 bands and floats everywhere, what has happen seems to me like you need to get some new officals in there , some one who cares about Johnson county, and as for Bufford T. Busser leading the parade that was a joke in its self, look out Lawerance co. or Floyd co or Martin Co. I will be there next year, at least you can watch a parade not a joke!

I hear this all the time but the fact is the high school bands died out about the same time disco did. You can't get bands for a parade when they don't exist. It's not the fault of the festival that they don't have more people in the parade it's just the way it is today. Years ago every school had a band, a fairly big band, and they all came here to play in the parade. Back in the day ee also got all of the shriners from Ashland and Lexington because we were the only big festival east of Lexington. As it stands now every whistle stop on the big sandy river has a festival, there's one every weekend somewhere, and the shriners are invited and expected at all of them so they break it up into smaller units to try and be everywhere. I would agree that the Apple festival should end the parade, put it out of it's misery it's only going to get worse as years go on, but it's not the Apple Boards fault, it's a sign of the times.

I cant believe this apple day was such a laugh. It is going down hill every year did anyone else notice that there wasnt any county units working apple day. I didnt see any of the sheriffs units downtown at all. If anyone else did then I apolize. I just think that it is ashame that the county cant put their difference aside when you are having thousands of people visiting here. I think what the apple board needs to do is get some insight on new things for appleday. I hardly seen any apple pies, and apple items at this. what does everyone else think., The board really needs some help because they are letting this go down each year and in another year or two you wont have anyone willing to come here and that is sad !!!

The county units were working in the county this weekend. Check your jail see how many arrests were made if you don't believe this. Had a friend arrested for DUI so I know.

really, where were all the apple pies.looked everywhere for one and didn't see any.did see they were making apple butter sat.as far as the county not being their i also never saw any.i don't buy that they were all working the county.i think after the incident between the two departments a couple weeks ago that the sheriffs office said your town, you take care of it which is a very poor way of handling things.if somenthing major would have happened theirs no way the police department could have handled it.way to go bill, exactly why we need a new sheriff come november 2.

Apple Days sucked terribly this year!! They were more dogs than people!! Why does people feel the need to bring your dog to a festival with hundreds of people walking shoulder to shoulder?? I mean really People that's insane leave your furbabies home!!!! I'm actually considering borrowing a baby to put in a stroller for next time... Mothers just push their strollers into your legs expecting you to move when you can't!! All it was is food, first monthers, and dogs!! This festival was a joke!

All the stinky dogs ruined Apple day and the owners smelled worse. Scumms keep your dogs at home and take a bath once in awhile

There are not many high school bands in the parade because years ago "the powers that be" decided not to have a band competition. JCHS & PHS used to co-host a band competition and it drew a lot of good bands. It was held on Sat. at PHS football field and the bands stayed for and marched in the parade. No competition, no reason for bands that are not local to travel here, not just for a parade. Don't know why or who made the decision to stop competition, but it cost us the bands for the parade and the people who traveled with them and spent their money here. Seems like a lot of bad decisions were constantly made over the years and no one has tried to recreate the "Days of Glory". For me anyway, Apple Day is a sad disappointment from days gone by.

Can't remember what the correct name is, it's that booth by the city parking lot where you let them know where you are from. This year it just had the 50 states to light up if someone reported where they traveled from to be at Apple Day. I remember when it used to have where people traveled from all over the world to be at Apple Day. People stopped coming and NOTHING has been done to change that. Apple Day was a thing to be proud of and put Paintsville and Johnson County on the map. It brought in people who spent money and boosted our economy and told people back home how great a time they had and it grew by word of mouth. Nowadays word of mouth is what keeps people away. Changes need to be made. Don't know who can do it, but it needs to be done.

Everyone is right about Apple Day, it is getting worse every year. I usually go down mainly for the food and it has got terrible I got two hot dogs from the first booth right in front of the old G. C. Murphy building and they were ice cold. You would think if they were going to sell hot dogs they would at least try to keep them a little warm. The only thing I found worth eating were the fried bologna sandwiches, they were hot and tasted great.

If you want good food and plenty to choose from you have to go to Hillbilly Days. In fact Hillbilly Days makes Apple Day look bad in more ways than one.

I'm sure the Apple Board would welcome anyone that wants to join the group. Apple Day isn't what it use to be, but seriously these people are working on this festival all year long, so if you have a better idea or want to be a part of it than find out were they meet and join. I'm not on the board, but frankly I'm sick of people getting on this stupid website bitching about this and that when the fact is their to sorry to get out and make a difference. Thanks for your time.

They could talk to people who were on the board in the old days and find out what they did. Maybe they should look up the activities of past Apple Days and try them again. Some on the board are unapproachable and judgmental. They could careless what you have to say.

I'm not that old 47 but I could remember all the bands coming here to complete and all the floats and the shriners and the sword man and all the apple products and the concerts at the high schools instead on the courthouse stage but it has all gone towards money money money. Everyone says to bring more people to paintsville amd johnson county WELL I THINK WE SHOULD GO BACK IN TIME WHEN IT WAS ABOUT THE PEOPLE HERE AND GET BACK WHAT APPLE DAY WAS AND SHOULD BE ABOUT!!!!!!! I think alot more people would come and have more fun. AND WHATS THE DIAL ABOUT NOT HAVING A APPLE BOWL GAME I THINK THATS JUST CHILDLESS NOT HAVING ONE AND WHOS IDIAL WAS IT NOT TO HAVE ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE?????????? I know we should be proud of Paintsville and Johnson County but I think we're missing the big picture to help the economy here at home sometimes we have to go back in time and do somethings that worked good then and do it now. SO HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WILL BE BETTER !!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone has ever thought of Apple Day as being the Rose Bowl of the south. If that is the way you've felt about it in the past, I would suggest you try traveling a bit more. That really is pathetic and embarassing for you.

Apple Day was great when they had performers set up bands in the street. You could listen to many talented people that wanted to share their music! The food is not a problem but the activities are! The Apple Bowl getting cancelled was the worst mistake they made!! IT was the game of all games! I know it had to bring money to the schools. It was the bragging rights to the barrell. Everyone got excited! I am sorry if Paintsville felt they couldn't play well enough. I have seen this game make the kids play twice as hard and actually pull off a win when no one thought they had a chance! It's about pride! The parade is and does suck! Bands now have to pay for their own transportation to any activities they participate in. This is a shame since it is part of a school and should be considered a school function. I think the competition would be great if it were brought back. We need better concerts on Sat. also. It was great when they brought in "Big Names " to perform. I understand that this is only my opinion but this is what I remember about some of the best Apple Days we have ever had! Let's get back to the "Old" Apple Days and maybe we can all ahve a wonderful time and not fel the need to down it anymore. Just an Idea!
