Carl d. perkins is a wonderful place to go and get help or schooling if you really want to get the help and take it seriously. The students range from a variety of ppl who need this help. Autism, blind, deaf, drug abusers, down syndrom, anger management, handicaped, ppl who need physical therapy, the list goes on. No one is judged by their ability or their flaws, the main goal is to provide education and help to better succeed in life no matter what obstacles you need to overcome.

Having worked there several years for quite sometime, I must agree its a fabulous place and opportunity for many people who otherwise would not have the abillity to enter the workforce. For minimum investment, they return those workers to the workforce generating much more in tax dollars than are ever spent there.

No I haven't worked there for several years. Bambi what I recall from campus was a a rather pleasant place. Of course you have classes in the day time, but there are alot of evening activities. It is very clean, the staff is great, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves immensly. I think its one of those situations that you get out of it what you put in it.

It is wonderful place to learn, grow, mature, get a degree in anything you would like to do depending on your own personal wants or academics. It's a wonderful place to become social in different social settings, meeting new friends, learning how to be more independant. The campus is really nice as well. You get your own personal mailbox for your mail. The rooms are nice, and each floor there has it's own washer, and dryer so you can do your own laundry. Each floor has two large bathrooms at each end for taking showers, bathing, grooming, using restrooms. You are provided three nice meals a day. You have access to using the telephones there for personal calls. You can even take visits away from the center. There are so many things to do at Carl D. Perkins, and I must say it was one of the best experiences I have had with furthering my education. Everyone from faculty, staff, students, or residents that went there were exceptionally nice. It's a wonderful place to bloom into a better person, and make great long lasting friendships along the way.
Thank you Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center for helping me achieve new heights!

I knew several people who went to the beauty school there. They didn't live there and, as far as I know, didn't have anything wrong with them. I don't think you have to have a disability to go there. If you do, maybe you can claim a nervous disorder or something. That's the only thing I can think of that they could have said was wrong that couldn't be disputed.

In those cases usually EKCEP is usually footing the tuition bill. EKCEP provides funds for training for individuals who are laid-off, displaced homemakers, or other disadvantaged workers. So, no to participate in certain programs there you do not have to have a disability per se.

I thought they made changes to the center a year or 2 ago that it is not considered a rehab center like it used to be & now more of a vocational school like Mayo was. I know they still have students who have disabilities that live on campus, but they also have a lot of students from Johnson and surrounding counties that take classes right out of high school.

Carl D. Perkins helps people who are low income, people who have learning disabilities, disabled. Everyone is different, and everyone's situations are different!
Who said something was wrong with disabled people! There is nothing wrong with those students who go there to better themselves and their education!

Maybe her mother-in-law is there for therapy. Not everyone who goes to this facility is looking for a job. The physical therapy department can charge those individuals who have insurance for those services or they may pay for them out of pocket. It's like going to a physical therapy center anywhere else. You may want to see what services are being offered to the mother-in-law.

I am sure therapy is one of the reasons she is there, however, the center does not take insurance for the nursing coverage or and other assistance being provided by the state or taxpayers. Please I do know better. Our local nursing homes have outpatient therapy, actually provided by the same therapists. Wonder if one of your seventy + relatives could be admitted to the place for therapy for as long as she has been there. This is a skeem. It should be illegal. This place is a joke. They should shut it down or make something more beneficial from the space.

Another thing, why don't you call the center and ask if they take insurance or can pay out of pocket for staying at the facility. See what they tell you. You obviously do not know what you are talking about. I dare any of you to call and ask that question. It does not work like that. And yes they are a vocational rehabiltation center. They are suppose to be working toward a vocational goal.

I stayed there in the mid 90's, while attending Mayo. Wonderful facility, staff, and chance to make lifelong friends.
