Why are the people here the way they are? What makes them the way they are? Friend one minute enemy the next? Back stabbing, two faced, absent minded idiots? You all gather into small groups interested in one thing, finding a way to screw somebody. Lie to them, gain thier trust, get them nice and cozy and then bend them over and show them what its like to have a sore a$$. Little to none of you can be trusted, a friend around here is just enough to be your next moment of stress. Go to hell eastern kentucky, go right to hell.

east Kentucky could be such a pleasant place to live, just look at east Tennessee and the western Carolina's. One could write a complete treatsie on the things that went wrong here many years ago. Its sad, it is a beautiful place..I drive home and see trash that people toss out the window, the junky old cars sitting around houses, trash and filth everywhere. Sure there are poor people, but just because one is poor doesn't mean you have to be trashy!

As far as the people go, the folks around here have been shaped by a great many things..I for ome believe it goes back to the way we have played these poor old me attitude!

One could write a book on the ignorant people who get on here and insult the people of EKY. My family never had a poor old me attitude and neither did anyone I know. The people I grew up with were poor but they worked at any job they could find for next to nothing and then, in the Summer, they would come home and work in the garden they planted to help feed their family. That's not a poor old me attitude, that's an I'll make it no matter how hard I have to work attitude. Many times I've helped my parents fill an old wash tub with water and build a fire under it to can the food we grew. I would love to see you loud mouth jackwads go through a small fraction of the hardship these people who live here go through. I have no doubt we'd hear you crying like the mean little baby you are.

It's not just here. The younger the generation, the worse it becomes. Nowadays these kids think " You should be glad I SHOWED UP to work today." Add to the fact that jobs are scarce around here, and other low income areas, and it appears to be worse.

You know where I think we went wrong? The "Everyone gets a trophy" mentality. I mean REALLY? WTF is THAT? Kids will NEVER learn about real life THAT way...

You totally missed the point. its not that there are not decent people..its far more complex than can be explained here.

Well if it is too complex for you to explain it on here why the heck did you get on here and stir things up ? BTW I totally got your point. I just don't see why people get on here and gripe. Go out and pick up some of that trash if it bothers you so much. I got together with some of my friends and cleaned up a lot near where a friend lives. What's stopping you from getting up and go help clean up some of that trash you see on your way to and from work ? There are trashy people everywhere. Try walking down an alley in Chicago and look at the trash lying all over the street and you had better walk fast or some one might dump their bucket they use for a potty out the window and splash you real good. There are broken down cars in alleys in Chicago, New York, Oregon and a lot of other places I could mention. In every City there is a nice section and a poor section. EKY is no different.

I like living here in EKY. I love to go visit other places, but I always want to come home. Maybe it's because I grew up here.

As far as the OP, it just depends on who you hang with, not every one is like that.

If you lie with the dogs...you're bound to get fleas...

Drowning fool, it's time for you to find a new set of friends.

I am sorry that I expressed my opinion here, I should have known better. I just wish my life were filled with as many absolutes. I have found that if you open your mind you can form many different opinions.
I have worked in a capcity for several years trying to bring about change in the socioeconomic status of our area, and after making some growth, I see us slipping back in the same problems that have plagued the area throughout its history.
This was an awesome place to grow up. I was reared respective and loved my hills and valleys. I spent many happy nights hunting, and building friendships that have endured until this day. I love my farm and I have always returned home and I have lived all over the US.
I get frustrated at the closed narrow view many of our folks take when looking toward the future. It can be bright, our children can be educated. But its those basic attitudes of obtaining education, reaching beyond one's position in life that makes this area so closed to change and progress.

I understand your points, and they were well made. I respect your opinion on things, I truly do. I ask for the same respect for mine. In this case I was not just being cantankerous, of facetious. I was truly expressing something that can and should be addressed.

First of all, let me just say that you have just as much right to post your opinion on here as I do. I may not agree with you but you have the right to have your say. I see your point about reaching beyond your boundaries. I don't know what your job description is but it sounds like you are in a position to help some people. I sincerely hope that is the case. I have talked to many young people who are just entering High School and I've tried to steer them towards a good education. I have given at least 6 young people jobs in my office to enable them to work their way through college. 5 out of those 6 kids were the first ones in their family to go to college. I'm not trying to brag. What I am trying to say is, instead of getting on here and being critical, jump in and do something that helps. work something besides your mouth. Get out and help one of those people you're so critical of. Ask someone close to you what you can do to help them improve their life. Look for opportunities to give someone the chance to pull themselves out of the rut they are in. I guess I am a doer not a talker. Everyone has their own way of looking at life.
