What are your absolute favorite comfort foods? What would you order at a cozy home-style restaurant?

Soup beans , fried potatoes, cole slaw, pickles, cornbread. It is great. It all over the south especially in Tenn. They have other food as well but lots of ppl come in for the homemade soup beans with all the trimmings. I for one never thought of the cole slaw and pickles but it alls goes together.

Churches style fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, dirty rice. If you can't do Cajun style cooking, Fried chicken, fried potatoes and French style green beans.

[Just don't do whatever it is Ponderosa does to their chicken. Gives me the runs every single time.]

They told me Friday they will no longer do wings on the bar everyday . Thats why I went there . The sirloin tips were not good and have not been the last few times I was there . Those were my favorite things

I didn't care for their wings. The sirloin tips were tough as shoe leather both times I ordered them. I'm glad I like my steaks rare because with them that's the only way to get one that's tender. I've about given up on eating out around here. Not a heckuva lot of choices unless your hopes don't go beyond a burger.

I just don't get the fascination with Billy Ray's. I have always heard rave reviews about that place, and I have tried it on three occasions over the past ten years. Each time -twice for dinner, and once for lunch- the food was horrible - even a burger for lunch was such low grade greasy, gristly meat I could not enjoy a single bite. I mean Food City Deli is about the same quality of food, and it is garbage. Billy Ray's does a ton of business, and I am happy for them. I, however, think it is the most overrated restaurant around. They owe it to their very loyal clientele to pick their game up drastically.

I was just wondering Trinity if you are some kind of a nut case. You must be to say these things about Billy Ray's. Billy Rays is absolutely the best all around restaurant I have ever visited. They absolutely have the best roast beef ever and they also have great soup beans, corn bread and kraut and wieners. Also any one who says they don't have the best prime rib in the country must be nuts. I have also had a hamburger and fries there and thought it was great but I find it unusual that anyone would go to a place like Billy Ray's and order a hamburger. Just my opinion.

No offense intended, but you really need to experience some truly high quality dining. I cannot attest to the quality of the soup beans or kraut and wieners. I just would never order that at a restaurant. My thirteen year old can cook a good roast. I really don't get why you find it out of the ordinary to eat a burger and fries for lunch. As for the so-called Prime Rib - really. That was the recommendation that prompted my last visit. The meat had that all too familiar taste of a pre-cooked, or Casino style prime rib roast. Not one that was properly seasoned and cooked from the raw state (preferably still on the bone at better restaurants). I ordered a medium-rare cut, and without even discussing it with me, the server brought me out a gray hunk of cheap, low grade buffet meat. What they call au jus was just beef base and hot water straight out a jar. Prime Rib is something that I know very well, and to rate Billy Ray's as "the best around" is laughable. I won't take the route of personal insults that you chose to travel, but I do strongly suggest that you continue to support your local eatery with unabashed passion, but you need to get out there and try some fine cuisine.

I've been to Billy Rays a few times and it's a better restaurant for the AREA. That's all. One can go to a Ryan's buffet or IHOP and get better food however.

There just aren't any decent restaurants in Paintsville or Prestonburg. Period. Anything that had a decent buffet that changed once in awhile and a decent menu would probably shut all the other places down.

@ Misb5. We've about cut Pondo out of the equation also. We've kinda lost trust due to a few they have employed that handle the food.

Bob Evans is ok, but breakfast food gets old quick and the other things on the menu really aren't up our aisle.

I agree totally If Billy Rays is good they must be eatin frozen dinners . And Ponderosa is no longer a possibility . Good lord Applebees in pikeville is not good either the few time's we ate there it was not great either and steak and shake has been nasty every time we have tried it . I don't see why we cant get a good place to eat in the area . We went to B.R. just to try the prime rib every body was raving about it .It was a grey nasty salty peice of meat . LizzyBs is pretty good at lea what I have tried .
