Whats up with all these young girls getting pregnant? Do they not know the meaning of birth control? How about the guys that keep knocking up these girls. Why dont they wrap it up with a rubber? Our tax payers dollars are hard at work again because of these fatherless children. Its a shame. They'll get a state medical card, food stamps, wic, and a welfare check for the kid. I'm sick of paying for someone elses mistake. If you cant keep your legs closed then pay for them yourself!

I am so tired of hearing your whinny damn azz people. My taxes pay for everything boo hoo. I know a little girl who is pregnant right now. I don't care to much for her family but why the hell is it any of your business. I am sure at one point in your life you have needed help and you got help from someone or something. Just because they need some medical help or food stamps to feed them and there baby who cares. I would rather help them then to see them go hungry or god forbid something happen to her or her baby. Get over yourself stop your bitching about it. It is not up to you what these girls or guys do. If you don't want them to use your taxes don't pay them, if it makes you that mad or envy of them getting something you don't have! Damn go bitch at someone else for awhile and leave little kids alone and keep your nose out of other people's business!

I would rather use our tax dollars to pay for the girl and baby's health care or food rather than some druggie using our tax dollars to buy more pills. At least it is going for the good of another human being or beings rather than to feed someone's addiction.

Can you imagine how populated this world would be if guys could get pregnant?

I would rather my tax money go to the big banks and wall street. They have it hard right now, I hear one say he had to sell one of his jets to buy a new yacht. That is a shame.

You would have a right to talk. You would keep the local labs busy trying to get DNA tests from the hundreds of men lined up.

I just think that ppl should be more responsible. They know sex causes children. If you have sex, and you get pregnant, then it should be the responsiblity of the parents to raise the child. Why should it be anyone elses responsibilty? Tv glamorizes young & unwed mothers.(16 and pregnant) Sex is everywhere surrounding our children. But the bottom line is, its the parents responsiblity to give them the self esteem it takes to say NO, lets wait. If you cant wait, then be protected!!!! Not only for the sake of not getting pregnant, but STD's as well!!! I've found that the children who are getting pregnant are "proud" of the fact that they're going to have baby. There is no shame. Being unmarried and pregnant has become just as common as breathing. Its still WRONG. There are too many shades of grey in life anymore. There seems to be no right, and no wrong.

Who ever said you had to be married to have a baby? There are lots of women who want to have a baby, but don't want to have to take care of a grown man in the process. It is merely an old fashion way of thinking.

Thats fine. Then THEY should pay for them. Acutally the Bible does say that a man and woman should be married before having children. And these "women" arent "women" that are having bastard children, they are YOUNG, and uneducated. I dont think a 15 year old chooses to have a child just because she doesnt want the responsiblity of a man to take care of..

So, what you are saying is, you thought it was better back in the old days when the 13 year old girls were marrying the 30 year old men or older, and having babies. Times haven't really changed. It's just illegal now for the old "God Fearing Men" to take advantage of the little girls. Now the young boys do it.

There was a time when me and my mom had to get food stamps.. She didn't get pregnant with me when she was a teen but we still needed the help. And I thank God for my medical card because I've had 9 surgeries since January '09. If we didn't have my medical card we would have been in over our heads because one surgery costed almost 20k. I thank God and the people who help make it possible for me to have my medical card. But I do wish the girls my age would make better decisions. Not only are they cutting their childhood short but they're making it tough on their babies.

Our tax dollars = our business

Besides most of these young mothers are just following the family tradition, and mooching off of the goverment as a permanent lifestyle choice. Next thing you know they're "baby farming" (having more and more babies to get more and more money.) Your post suggests that you are one of these half-raised parents, how does it make you feel?? What are your plans, are you going to pursue higher education?

Im 17 years old and im 3 months pregnant. I will be 18 very soon and i will be signing up for welfare and wic. Yeah, i made a mistake. The thing is i was protected but i still got pregnant. Im not "proud" like you say we all are. I'm taking responsibility for my actions. I'm trying to make the best out of this situation i got myself into. Stop talking bad about the young pregnant people out there. What if it happened to your daughter?? Would you want her to strugle and have no help at all? Paying your taxes is helping people that NEED it. We're all just trying to do our best and give our kids the best life we possibly can, we just need a little help at first until we get on our feet and get everything figured out. Teen pregnancy happens, get over it already.

Well, as much as a burden as it is on the social programs, it's actually a good thing in the long run.

Census indicates that while black and Latino couples are having over 12 children per household on the average, the Caucasian birthdate is about 1.2 children per household.

In areas like ours with low populations of these higher rate races, we face a population shortage.

This impacts the ability to offer industry a viable work force and other negative socio-economic results.

They used to have a theory that the young people were leaving Appalachia and even drafted programs to draw them back here. Advanced technology has revealed that those they were trying to lure back were likely never being born.

Well, I have no idea why stating facts makes me a "cretin". I attend the KY Census data user group annual meeting on occasion. There is a real reason to have some concern about a population drop off in the Appalachian region by 2030.

Census data users study the raw data. I'm not sure if you were offended by the idea of demographics but these figures are openly discussed routinely.

We can pretend that these demographics do not exist but its unreasonable to make economic predictions because we are afraid to use real world data. In other words. Get serious and be an adult about it.

While some children born here may require public assistance, we must maintain some population growth to maintain a viable work force.

The problems with social programs aren't in Appalachia. The west coast is having it's own crisis as it receives more immigrants who are having offspring at an alarming rate. Census experts are predictinbg that as education falls off, California will be the "Appalachia of the next millinia" and mostly a service oriented region as they attempt to put forth programs like English as a second language, they are finding that they are trying to teach people to read and write English, that a good deal of those poor folks can't read or write their native language. Its provinbg to be a real obstacle.

It's nothing to be made light of or used to insult one ethnic group over another. It's a big red flag that should be concerning the entire country.

It's one reason why a population decline in our region is so alarming. With no skilled work force maintained here, we are unable to provide power when the demand peaks as it soon will.
