first of all none of your pure athletes will play for him.
2nd he tries to be there buddy and you cant do that.
3rd he has all of his buddies as coaches, he got rid of the best one in Joe Chirico because Joe knows a hell of alot more than Jason will ever know.
If there is not a change made soon and i mean very soon i think PHS should look for another coach. HE IS A JOKE
lol

It is really time to evaluate the job that Coach Kinner and his "staff" have done for this program. Participation is at an all time low. Morale is even lower. Attendance is down. The team's performance shows signs of inadequate fundamental teachings. I am sure that Coach Kinner knows football. He has been a part of winning programs as a player at PHS and at Georgetown. But, this just is not working. If he remains as head coach, it is not a stretch to start thinking about the end of PHS football. The consensus opinion of the student athletes is that they will not play for him. Kids are not like they used to be back in the day. The verbal abuse and humiliation tactics do not garner respect. Kids today will tell, and apparently have told, the coach to "Kiss their asses," walk. When a school the size of PHS can't get its best athletes on the field/floor, the sports team will not succeed. The other shitty part of the situation is that if he is dismissed, then the other EIGHT members of his family that Paintsville Independent Schools employs will probably organize some sort of protest, and the entire school system will suffer. This is a prime example of why a school system cannot allow a single family to gain such a dominant position. I am afraid that this is going to get much worse before it gets any better. A damn shame.

I meant to state that a school the size of PHS must get its best athletes on the field/floor for ALL the major sports, or that sports team will not have success.

You guys aren't thinking big enough. The problem isn't JUST football. It is the entire system. In the past why did people come to Paintsville to school? It wasn't because of football or basketball. It was because of academics. The best families and the families who valued education wanted their children to have the best instruction possible so they saved, paid tuition, drove their children from Inez or Floyd county, took an apartment in town or anything else they could do to make sure their child had a degree from Paintsville High School. It meant something! Along with that came great althletes and therefore great althetic programs. And, smart kids make good athletes.

Paintsville has lost its standing as an academic stronghold. Sure there are some bright spots. But overall, other nearby schools have more to offer including teachers, administrators, and staff who are not shortsighted (or should I say "sportsighted") only. For what is it worth, I say start reviving your academics with strong teachers and strong standards and your athletic programs will reap rewards along with entire district.

It seems our problems started when the new principal decided to quit playing the Apple Bowl. Rumor has it we will play Betsy Layne for the Bowl next year. This will be a shame and mark just how far we have fallen. Please tell me it aint so Joe!

It's so, but your "new" Principal had very little input into the Apple Bowl situation, that decision came straight from the top. He's screwwed up enough, but that wasn't his decision.

Personally, I think they all (every adminstrator) need to go and start from scratch. None of them can look you in the face and tell you the whole truth, it just isn't in their make-up. None of them have the backbone to cross the "true" powers and that my friend is why we have most of the coaches we have. Coach Allen was not part of the good ole' boy club and was never given a fair chance, Kinner is and look where we are. I would just about bet you a hundred he'll be back next year.

Coach Allen is gone because he slept with half the female students and at least one faculty member. But she is gone now too.

The Apple Bowl has been dead for years. It is not competitive. How can JCHS gain anything by trampling over a nearly defunct PHS team. They are on such a different level, it is like the Pittsburgh Steelers playing UK. JCHS can get more competition, and a better workout in an intrasquad practice scrimmage. And, that is only slightly hyperbolic. Paintsville certainly has no business playing a team of JCHS' capabilities in talent and participation. There is a very real risk of a kid getting seriously hurt. It seems that a sentimental grudge is the only argument supporting the revival of this massacre. Both schools, and particularly their football programs, specifically the players, are much better served by keeping this tradition where it belongs - in the past. Why not have both teams invite two other teams here, and play two games on that Thursday night at the same field. Alternate between the two home fields(well, IDK if PHS' facility could handle it). Call it the Apple Festival Classic. Divvy up the gate and concessions. Sell some shirts. It would be pretty awesome.

Well I did say "at least one". I guess now there were at least two. One is no longer there and one is still there. Is that better?

And just so you know, I don't believe for one minute that you are an actual teacher at Paintsville.
what a shame

It seemed to me that everyone in Paintsville loved the Apple Bowl when Paintsville was stomping JCHS. When the tables turned Paintsville wanted to take thier ball and go home. I think Jchs vs. Paintsville, no matter which school wins is the Apple Bowl. So, whoever decided to put a halt to the "REAL" Apple Bowl, should not take the game so personally.

Paintsville's football program is a joke. Kinner had one season as an assistant and then kissed ass to get get Jim Tom fired. He's a terrible coach and has turned paintsville into one of the worst programs in eastern ky. He's a prime example of someone that was a decent player in school, but can't coach the game. look at his staff, he has two coaches that never played high school ball, and his defensive coordinator has no clue about defense cause he never played it.

Paintsville ended the Apple Bowl because the game is no longer competitive. They swallowed a giant lump of pride, and did the right thing. PHS can not compete with JCHS any longer. The two programs have gone in drastic opposite directions, and it is getting worse every year. Johnson Central is to be commended for establishing itself as a football power on the state level. Paintsville's football program is a shell of its former self. It is in such serious decline that it is barely able to field a team. It is really a shame, but unless Paintsville is somehow able to energize its program and get its best athletes to participate, the idea of bringing back the Apple Bowl is not realistic at all. JCHS should be proud, and move on to what really matters - winning a 5A championship. Paintsville needs to evaluate the status of its football program, and implement the changes needed to improve it in a major way.
