You Mad Bro? Meme Sign Gets Teens in Trouble

Sep 5, 2011 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: NowPublic

After Kirtland High School beat Painesville Harvey on September 2, some Kirtland students unfurled a handmade sign that read, "YOU MAD BRO". If you've spent any time online during the last few months, you'll recognize "You mad bro" as part of the trollface meme.

This is rich. OK, what part of it is racist?
Are the Cullerds trying to monopolize the word Bro now?
Don't they have bigger fish to fry at the NAACP? maybe things like working on higher graduation rates, lowering crime rates and teen unwed mom pregnancies, getting their people to get off the welfare and earn honest livings, pulling their pants up, etc

I'm from the East Coast. This wonderful segment has made national headlines and is absolutely hilarious. Let me explain for you folks.

Say you're playing bingo.... and you have nearly EVERY number called, accept one. The next number, a winner stands up. He receives his prize. After the fact, you look at the board, and realize your bingo card was full! But its too late! OH KNOW!!!!

The fine gentleman who won looks at you, you're clearly frustrated at yourself for your own mistake, and shouts out "LOL.... YOU MAD BRO?"...
This is no different than a taunt, and has no racial connections what-so-ever. It derived in video games, which explains why so many of you don't understand. While playing shooters and games like World of Warcraft, or Call of Duty, players would get multiple kills in a row, and piss off enemy players. The taunt would then be shouted out on the game, too piss off whomever was losing at the time.

Ohio must be lacking in the "topics of interest" department lately... for this to upset the citizens so much to begin with. It's even mote troublesome that I've been insulted in this manner online in Russian, Japanese, German, and probably Arabic on a daily basis. To think some of our youth could comment on this news report and not know what the origination of the phrase is, frightens me for the sake of your youth.

I just figure that the poor English must be an Ebonics trademark.
If they had written "Are you mad guys?"
Then it would've been white-bread enough.

Also, after watching the clip, I noticed that the winning school has Cullerd players and students too. This is no different than Cullerds being able to call themselves and others the "N" word.
