Sounds like someone did not do a geological and soil survey before they built the subdivision. How did they get permits to build without the certification of the survey???
Is centex going to buy back the homes involved and place the homeowners in other Centex homes?

Centex should buy back the homes at current market value. Then these people could use any equity they've earned and buy a real home.

Now I'm thinking about going with another developer instead of Centex. I've heard and seen quite a few Centex homes under construction, and they leave a lot to be desired. In my opinion, they are questionable but what about us first time homebuyers? Give us more information on the quality of a Centex home. What are their warranties? Are they worth their price?

If Centex is having a problem with foundations now woth already built homes, then why are they still trying to sell them on their website www.centexhomes.com ?
If buyers do not see or read this story, is Centex going to tell them about the issues that they are currently having?
I just think for them to continue to offer their homes for sale in Los Lunas is nuts knowing the isseues that are there now. Then sending letters to people asking them to move out of their new homes? That is crazy and shows the GREED of home builders.
Please stay on top of this story and let the public know what if anything is being done to Centex and what they are doing to help their homeowners.

The construction of a new elementary school south of the Centex development will start soon. The cost of this school will be in the millions. This shifting of structures due to unstable soil base should be a concern to all the residents of Los Lunas. I'm wondering what action is being taken by our village leaders in addressing this problem that could also affect our children when the school is built.

I'm not a resident of Flower Mound Tx. I'm a resident of Los Lunas and I live in the Centex Development in Huning Ranch. I don't know how Flower Mound Tx got on the comment that I wrote.

I'm concerned, since I do live in Huning Ranch. So far my home does not show any signs of the issues mentioned above. I own a Centex home, and would not reccomend to anyone to go with Centex. This was my mentality before this news clipping came out. I think Centex should step up and show some initiative and resolve the issues at hand. All these houses were built way too fast; with the overall quality taking a back seat. The faster you build them, the less overhead for all their sub contractors, etc. Speed/Money is the name of the game with track homes. Too bad...

This problem may lie with the geology of the area and soils with poor engineering characteristics. If these soils are not compacted sufficiently prior to building, cracks will appear as they absorb and expel moisture; and freeze and thaw. You just can't go out and build a home and streets on a pile of uncompacted dirt!

If I had a camera to catch the process that they go through to prepare the land and the homes, this would be valuable for lawmakers. Maybe the builder(s) should place cameras to capture this data as a requirement to build. Lawmakers? Consumers? Anyone?

I bought a home in Huning Ranch which is currently under construction; I haven't received a single phone call or notice of the problem. This is pretty alarming! Maybe they are hoping that we don't watch / read the news??

I don't blame the mexicans. They are just cheap labor. Centex needs to quit hiring people who are not craftsmen for work that actually requires semi-skilled labor (framing, block, brickwork, etc). If the state would pass a law holding employers responsible for hiring illegals and actually enforce sanctions against those who violate it, this problem would go away as quickly as developers like Centex, Pulte, et. al..

They're only here to slap up houses that will last 15 years, maximum and reap the profits. NM can do without them, in my opinion.

They build these houses so fast that it's scary. These guys are so in a hurry to get them done, that you just might find tools in your attic/crawl space. My friend got a nice bosch 18volt drill and a mag light!
