I don't know that she needs to be fired and she did apologize. My issue with her is that you don't allow students to do your lessons for you without making sure they were appropriate and would not offend anyone. No teacher should let students do this. If that is the case then why are teachers being paid and not doing a job. My other issue is that the principal should not have apologized first for her and then she comes along and apologizes, that make it seems like an insincere apology. I don't know if she has tenure or not and it does take a lot to fire a tenured teacher, not saying it can't be done but it takes a lot to get one fired.

You seem to have several thoughts on school policies. Were you teacher at one time?

Nope, never was. My father is a retired teacher in my hometown and it was just unheard of that you would allow a student to do the lesson plan for you without making sure that it was appropriate and not offensive. My sister is a teacher, my aunt is a retired teacher and I have several friends from high school and college that are teachers and they say that is just unheard of for a teacher to do that without making sure it is appropriate.

You can not come back from an incident such as this. No apology will be or is significant. She needs to be fired. No question. What she did was so anti-American, and to tell a room full of impressionable high school students to do this? What a horrible example. My kids WOULD NOT be in her class. Let alone that school! The new MCHS has made national new now twice! Once for this incident. And for the football kitten incident. Nice. We should all be so proud.

I am a retired Army veteran with three combat tours in Iraq. I put my life on the line for that flag. To see a fellow U.S. citizen desecrate Old Glory like that just infuriates me to the point of flat out rage! The lack of disrespect honestly baffles me and makes me sick! I'd love to to put her in a room full of combat veterans and see if she could explain herself out of that one by claiming it was an "educational project"! I think I know who'd get educated......real fast!!!

So everyone's pissed at this teacher but yet we're still in a country fighting a war that the people that live there burn are flag and have done so for years. That makes a lot of sense. If people wouldn't get so bent out of shape about it people would stop doing it. But it draws attention and that's why they do it. If no one would have said anything and just ignored it. It would have gone away with no media coverage nothing. When is society going to realize that there's no such thing as bad publicity. This person got just what she wanted recognized.

Amen to that so many people forget that free speech means you may not agree with it but they got the right to say it. I love this country and my freedom may not always agree with the politics but support or military 100%.

She can do it on her OWN time! She doesn't need to push her "right" to her opinion on my child in class. My child has no choice but to listen to it. It is my job to teach my child morals/ethics etc. when you are on my time (or my child's time), keep your controversial opinions to yourself. Teachers are the kids' superiors and the kids have to listen to their lecture in class. Talk about cramming your opinion down their throats!!!

People forget that free speech is what is protected and then want to put "expression" into the same category, An expression of "art" is not speech. It was never intended to be protected by the Constitution or our forebearers. I, for one, am sick and tired of the liberal agenda in this country from the Supreme Court on down to rewrite what the Constitution actually says; it's in black and white and there is no shades of meaning there.

Who says your opinion is right god forbid you give a person to choices and let them choose. Sounds like your cramming your opinion down your child's throat. They may half to listen but they can choose what they want to believe in or not believe in that's the freedom you get when your a U.S. citizen.

In that case the right to bare arms isn't what people are using it for. And speech is expression just like what your saying here you are expressing your feelings in written form she was doing the same thing by asking the kids to write down how what they were doing made them feel

"They may half to listen..." Lmao
How about "They may have to listen...."? That would make you appear much smarter anyway. Lmao.

It's MY CHILD TO RAISE! I CAN CRAM ANYTHING I WANT TO IN THEIR MINDS! THAT IS MY JOB!

No one said my opinion was right or wrong. I am saying that teachers have no business teaching our children their "opinions". The kids are there to learn facts. History, science, math, reading, etc. The teachers have no business using their authority to stand up in front of a class full of kids who have no choice other than to sit and listen and preach their opinions. The kid have no choice but to sit in class and listen to their lecture of their personal opinion. Otherwise they fail! LEAVE YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF! PREACH THEM ON YOUR OWN TIME TO PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO SIT AND LISTEN OR DEBATE WITH YOU! DON'T PREACH TO PEOPLE THAT YOU HAVE TRAPPED INTO LISTENING TO YOUR OPINION BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. Only a weak minded person would have to "trap" people into listening to their opinions. If your opinion was really something valuable then you wouldn't have to trap people. People would WANT to listen to you!

What I said was the original "art" exhibit, or any exhibit should not be considered free speech, and recreating it was not protected by the Constitution. When she asked them to write their feelings that was fine; laying the flag on the floor--not so much. Show a fricking photo of the original idiotic desecration that was called "art," and have them write their "feelings" about it. Art is an expression of the artists "feelings" and it is obvious that original "artist" and his feelings toward the United States and what is USED to stand for was just as bad as any al qeada terrorist. It's bleeding heart liberals like those in defense of this incident that are destroying this country, not foreign interests.
