I'm a young man about to be homeless tomorrow. Does anyone have any info about River City Mission? I've heard a lot of bad things about them, and I'm concerned about staying there. Are there any other shelters in Paducah for men? Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Don't believe everything you hear about River City Mission. Go to Facebook Page of River City Mission and read about them. The ones who have made negative comments about them are the ones who probably didn't want to follow the rules or are ones who were a part of Tent City and came up with a bunch of lies.

What happens when you stay there? As far as procedures/rules and things like that.

That I don't know the rules except the main one which most homeless shelters and that is no drinking, no drugs and no fighting.

That is so sad. Do you mind if I ask what happened for you to become homeless? I will be praying for you. Check with the Housing Authority, maybe they can help get you a place.

I heard they don't allow anyone with warrants either. My ex husband is living there now with his new wife. If they find out he has 2 warrants he won't be there much longer.

It is so amazing that so many people want to trash whoever is in charge of any shelter. They have rules and expect ones to go by them. If that means having to work and then giving a percentage of the money back to the shelter then so be it. It is that way, at every shelter and a lot of people stay at this shelter who never seem to have a problem with the rules and giving back a percentage. People love to start rumors when none is there. They are least more honest then when the lady who ran Tent City was organzing it-Stephanie whatever her name is was doing.

I never said that. I said that people always want to bad mouth others and start rumors. All organizations have rules and rules have to be followed. I saw on a totally different thread where a guy didn't like the rules, went to a homeless shelter in Nashville and wishes he was now back at River City because the one in Nashville takes everything from them.

I believe the sister took him there according to the thread that was posted on another topix and she is the one who made the comment that he wished he was back at River City Mission because the place in Nashville was taking all that he was earning. I should have said his family in my posts.

I used to live there so I do no by experiance. Things are better than before but that don't say much. Gene is a good Guy, he tries, hard loves God, loves his people. Her name is Shirley and she is horrable. When she wants you to something you better do it. At her yard sale she has made us work form 8 am to 10 or 11 at night with just a small lunch and and supper time. If you need to set down for a brake she calls you lazy. the next day gotta be up at 5 to do it all again. she treats people like they are stupid. No matter how hard you try if you make a mistake she jumps on you. If she's mad she threatens to throw you out of the mission. If I ever have problems again I will just go into the woods.
sorry

I pulled into the car wash River City had recently and I can tell you that My own Mother never spoke to me the way Barlow was barking at those boys. She acted like they were all to ignorant to wash a car. I will never support them again as long as she is in charge.

This is not about Stephanie. Tent City is being run by Michelle Thomas. Neither of these people have shelters. The man wanted info on River City. And though I don't know personally It sounds like He's getting the truth. At least I hear these bad things about them. I do know one of her board members personally and He won't go to her fundraisers cause she trys to treat them like she does the men. Everybody seems to be afraid to stand up to her.

Sounds to me like its our duty as citizens to speak up and get this wench out of there. How could a board member just sit back and decide ohh I'm not going to participate in the fundraisers because she talks to people like dogs. Hello jackass your A board member do something about it. They might be homeless but they are people! You never know what the situation was that put them in that position. Don't you think they feel bad enough without some jerk lady making it worse. People never cease to amaze me always turning a blind eye. She's supposed to be helping them out not working them like slaves...slavery has been long gone. Of course they should help out to earn their keep until a job is found then a percentage should be paid but those long ridiculous hours for A yard sale ha please lady somebody needs to smack sense into her!

PCM will arrange for you to go to a shelter in other locations if there isn't any space available locally.
