There is no way that building cost $8 million to repair!
Not repair, rebuild from the inside out. It will not meet today's code. They will have to gut it from the inside,, build a earth quake, fire resistant building inside it and then try to make it look like it used to on the inside. Almost impossible to do.
8 million would build a city block worth of new construction. It will not be enough to "restore"that old building. but, if someone wants to invest their own money in this folly, go for it. Not my tax money!

<quoted text>Man, you have no idea. 8 million is impossible to make up for a single screen theatre.

You are living on hope, not facts. Tear that old stuff down and get over it.
Not impossible, the Carson Center was 34 Million or so. We have to keep in mind, A large number of people from around the area not just Paducah or McCracken will be supporting it. When I first heard about the Columbia being restore, I didn't hear anything about a Movie Theater. Just that they want to restore the building. Movie theater would be great, Like it use to be.

wake up, the country is $16 trillion in debt and climbing, our money is only worth 65% of what it was 10 years ago, to waste $8 million on an old theater is stupid, dont even want to discuss Carson the money pit it is, at some point city and county (YOU) will have to take it over and pay the bills.

Maybe, but I know a lot about paying in to the Feds. That gravy you are referring to is still tax payer money. Even worst, since we are way in debt, it is a new 8 million dollar loan taken out in your and my name. One that I didn't get a chance to opt out of ant that my kids will have to pay back.
No thanks
They say they need 8, the fed gives them 2, then they go through it like piss through a strainer. It wouldn't be viable if they spent 100k on it. While we are on the road to economic devastation, we might as well get our share too!

All they need is about 800,000 customers to spend $10 there and, after operation expenses, the rest is pure profit. Now that's a project we can get behind!

Only if you don't consider interest. Take at least a couple hundred thousand more to,pay the interest

There is maiden ally already downtown. It's a waste. The only thing that would be cool is if they made it an IMAX theatre. Either way, do we really need to spend the money on this bizz

Sounds like effort to line a bunch of peoples pockets. Hell you could tear it down and build a state of the art building for that. Smells fishy to me. Probably just a bunch of wannabes floating trial balloons to see what happens. Like a lot of other BS in this town. I doubt anything will ever happen.

good eye, if its about making the city money, not lining certain pockets, they could build a brand new one and turn turn the lights on. Keep on feeding those fat greedy relatives and good buddys. Somebody should really moniter this fraudulent "job"!

The city needs to get out of the real estate business, every thing they got involved in, cost tax payers millions. They have never made a good real estate decision yet.
How about putting in some sidewalks so the disabled and poor walking have a place to safely get around.

really! you try and raise 6-8 million dollars and you have kids that go to bed at night with nothing to eat, kids that go to school with clothes that dont fit and kids that want to play sports but the parents can not afford to put them in! Then tent city getting kicked out of their only home. If this community can raise that kind of money then there should not be one family trying to beg for food. And you say it will pay for its self. As much poverty there is in this town explain to me how in hell can they afford to go to the movies. every week you hear about how a downtown business is in trouble because not enough business. PUT THAT MONEY TOWARD FIXING THE POT HOLES, CLEANING UP THE STREETS, HELP GET DRUGS OFF THE STREETS, HELP A FAMILY, FEED A FAMILY (just think how many you could feed with just a million) but no we watch the news about the food banks short on food to help feed someone and then trying to raise 6-8 million dollars. WTF.

For 8 million, they might as well rebuild it instead of repair. Thats 8 million reasons for me to vote NO to MERGER!
And really, whats the deal with that inflatable thing? We get THAT eyesore but no ice skating? Ridiculous!
