I was shocked and appalled when i saw this on WPSD LOcal 6 the other day!

This is awful! I am amazed that something like this is allowed without any sort of governmental agency intervention! Anyone know where this Tent City is?

Turn off Kentucky Ave. onto Walter Jetton, go down an 1/8 of a mile and turn right on Tennessee St. Go to the end of Tennessee St. It will end but you'll see a one lane path straight ahead, take that path (you'll only be able to drive down so far), go through the gate and you'll be there. You'll think your lost, but I've delivered food there several times. They're independent, but appreciate the help.

With all the so called Christians, tons of churches equipped with cots and plenty of room it is an absolute shame that children are having to live in tents. Sure our ancestors did it but they also had shorter life spans. Ticks are already horrible this spring and the thought that any of these children could get lime disease due to the heartless nature shown to them here in the Bible belt is appalling. Living in a tent is fine for those choosing to be naturalist but its not for everyone which is why they asked for help

Good question, I don't know who owns it??? Most likely the city does, I don't think the railroad would allow them to set up camp there due to liability reasons.

If you do go back there ask for Sammy, he's been there about 10 years and he's somewhat the leader of the bunch. Between 7-9 am u can catch him (Sammy) drinking coffee at the Hardee's on Broadway next to the fire dept. He's the short scruffy guy with a beard. You'll know when u see him.

most of the employees and other patrons know his situation and take care of him. Why are you trying to put him down? To make yourself feel better i presume.

the city owns that land and they are well aware of tent city. Where else can they go? I would not have put directions to get there on topix. Its kind of a safety concern for them. They have pride and dignity, but most are down on their luck. Dont kick people when they are down because you could end up in there shoes.

they picked that spot hoping for some privacy and safety. Most americans are just 1-2 paychecks away from being homeless. I have luckly never been in that situation, but i know people that have lost everything and I could not imagine how that feels.

It is kind of an out of the way spot but still in town. And living in a tent and growing a garden. If they do?? Is alot better than worrying how to pay the bills.Or fill up the car.

But if I ever start a community, it would need to be near a water source.

wpsd did do a segment on them but did not give directions to get there. They gave a name and number to contact someone if they wanted to help them. I am unaware of them (residents of tent city) being on the web. Another thing, why are u insinuating that this group of people grow and sell marajuana? I know that the ppd goes and checks on them 3 or 4 times a week and IF they were doing that they would have been arrested. Just because they are homeless, wether it by choice or not doesn't mean they are bad people!
