Listen, everyone that lives in government housing is not there because they want to be. Most of them work. Problem is that the rent is based on income, so the more they make the more they are charged. By the time they make enough to move, they are being charged so much that they can not. Go to the office at Elmwood and speak to Cal Ross, the director, and see if what I say is true. I tell you it is. And stop judging people on what they wear. While there will always be the bad apples in Dillards and Foot Locker the day those new designer duds come out, most wait for sales and use discounts. Not to mention the consignment shops in the area where you can get the same clothes for half the price. As for vehicles, well all I can say is a car is a persons lifeline. I would think that living in the projects they should have a car so they can get a job, get to the doctors, etc. Furthermore, cars are less than $200 a month. And if they pay cash with their taxes then whats the problem? Again, some do take advantage, but most are doing the right thing.

Not everyone abuses it and it is not just blacks its blacks and whites but I know of over 30 cases of people who work only for min wage could make more keep their hours cut back so they can draw as much food stamps as possible lie say their boyfriends don't live with them in housing they do some of the boyfriends work some don't which should be reported income. Have their daycare payed on have their car maintenance payed on once a year. Have free healthcare I don't care about if its for kids, kids should have it but the medical cards on the moms too until their kids are 18 bs. And cars are not turned in as an asset only money in your bank account is turned as assets so no those are not visitors cars, just bc you live in the projects does not mean you have bad credit or sometimes a whole family will pool their tax money and get a nice car . Before Obama repealed the welfare requirement to work welfare was for temporary assistance for hard times you could only get food stamps if you had children under 18 in your home and after your children were 3 you had to be in school, go to a job training program or work full time now that has all been repealed. That gives food stamps to people without kids they don't have to try and work or try and go to school to better themselves so why would they. Like the comment earlier high level college educated or drop out who doesn't work, before long won't be much financial difference at all. Go check the aid building you don't believe, 3 social workers in my family all this true. Also the comment earlier about people don't want to live in the projects that's a lie too where else would they get an apt, and the more kids the more bedrooms based on their income? I'd say they would be crazy not to live there I have been in nasty apartments people pay $450 for not half as nice as Elmwood and the houses on Bridge are super nice for a big family.

Also as far as I am concerned on sale or not unless you make your own way in this world you don't need designer clothes from Dillards if you can afford designer clothes you can afford your own apt and food and healthcare. See funny thing My husband and I we work our buts off don't receive anything job doesn't offer insurance so we pay $600 a month for health insurance we own our home nothing spect cost 60000 makes payment taxes homeowners and all about $425 so not bad there we drive 9 year old vehicles older than the ones you see at the projects. We don't shop at Dillards. We have pride in our hard work though and I would not choice to live the other way even though they do far less and come out as good as we do I guess they would rather feel entitled than have pride in a hard days work and knowing you earned what you have.

Listen folks--especially you with the 3 Social Workers in your family; you do not know what you are talking about. Things have gotten harder since Obama took office. As a dislocated worker you could get food stamps as long as you went to school or did something positive. Now you only qualify if you work. I know because I am a dislocated worker who is in school full time that does not qualify because I don't work. I would also rather spend my money at the mall on clearance clothes that last then pay darn near the same price at Wal Mart for clothes that shred and fade within months. Top rent in the Housing Authority depends on how many bedrooms. I think the max rent on a 3 bedroom is somewhere around $600.00. Don't quote me, but if you call they will tell you. Now in no way am I saying people don't have live in boyfriends and are bums, I'm simply saying that not all are and Obama has made welfare (food stamps anyways) more difficult to obtain.

Well better believe I am not dropping out on my degree for some food stamps. I think it's wrong that I don't qualify, especially since I lost my job and am a non-traditional student. Please ask your 3 family members how I can get around these new rules and qualify cause it sure as hell would make my life easier.

Yes its bull crap that those in school can't food stamps anymore but that those that don't work even those that don't have children can get them, sounds like Obama doesn't care much at all about people trying to better themselves and yes since you don't have to work anymore to get food stamps or have children he did make it easier to get food stamps just obv. not for people in your group, very sad. And by the way if max rent is $600 which means that you do work and that's what it is based on go try to find a 3 bedroom anywhere else cheaper to rent in Paducah for $600 as nice as Elmwood just bc its the projects doesn't mean its not nice you'd be living in nasty trailer somewhere falling apart paying $500. I don't wear walmart clothes I shop consignment and tj maxx.

I didn't say you wore Wal Mart clothes. I was making a point that economically it is better to catch a sale at the mall. I as well do consignment and TJ Maxx. I actually find really good stuff at the local thrift stores too! Also, I rent and pay $625 for a 4 bedroom that is really nice. It is much better then Elmwood. I do not have to deal with paper thin walls, nasty neighbors and disrespectful children/adults on my property. Also, just because someone is living in the projects and dresses nice does not mean they are taking advantage of anything. They may just know how to be frugal like we are saying. I even keep my hair, eyebrows and all done by utilizing the cosmetology school at WKCTC. They only charge $4.00 for a haircut! I also buy fake nails from the dollar store and make them look like a million bucks! There are a million ways to live a good, decent life on a budget and not appear to be broke as you actually are. And anyways, who said just because you don't make a ton of money or are on hard times you have to look like a bum?

I do not agree with anyone going hungry but here it is 2 Thessalonians chap 3 verses 6-13.
"6-Now we command you , beloved in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from believers who are living in idleness and not according to the tradition that they received from us. 7-For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when were with you, 8-and we did not eat anyone's bread without paying for it; but with toil and labor worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you. 9-This was not because we do not have the right but in order to give you an example to imitate. 10-For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat. 11-For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work.12-Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. 13-Brothers and sisters do not be weary in doing what is right. I agree with you in terms of the people you are referring to. However, how do you know just by looking at someone if they fall into my category or the one you loath?

You can't draw welfare and not work or do community service? Unless you have a Chris under the age of one or disabled. PERIOD. Food stamps I different, you can draw and not work. However, you can not pay bills with good stamps. Therefore the ppl that you claim are doing nothing, obviously have to be doing SOMETHING to pay bills... Even if they go to these different agencies that help you pay bills, that's only once or twice a year. Not every month. Shouldn't be so quick to assume ppl Are doing nothing at all and living off of the government. Things aren't as such.
