I recently visited family in Texas, and they tip carhops at Sonic. Is it expected?? I always tip at sit-down restaurants, but have never heard of tipping carhops. Don't they get paid minimum wage unlike regular waitresses/waiters that make like $2.50 an hour?

Thanks I appreciate your input. I'd like to hear from carhops. Do you expect people to know that they are supposed to tip you? Do you resent it when they don't? I know plenty of people that in the dark about this, so speak up.

As a former carhop myself I didn't "expect" tips! It's a nice bonus though when you have to go out in freezing or stormy weather! And also the places that have carhops usually only pay minimum wage so it's a nice boost to your weekly pay!!

Please tip carhops at Bobs, Sonic and Parkers. They come out in all kinds of weather. They don't expect it but its nice to get it, even if its a buck

I don't think tipping carhops is required nor is it customary! I'm not tipping someone to do the damn job they were hired to do!

I don't tip anyone. I didn't tell them to get that job. If I have a good experience then ill be back. Not my problem that the owner doesn't pay good.

Is a tip necessary now that Obama gives people what they need for free. Why work for a tip if you are entitled to free food stamps and welfare?

Shouldn't we have government operated cafeterias instead of free market restaurants? How about government healthcare and postage?

Tipping is part of the free market system.

Can you give a tip using your food stamp card?

I believe obama would say tipping alienates people on food stamps and is not socially just.

Each time you tip you are making a statement against obama and socialism.
