Has anyone had any experiences with Girl Scouts in Paducah? My little girl goes to Concord and the lady over it is not the nicest you have ever met.

You could contact the Girl Scout office (Jefferson Street) and ask who her Service Unit Manager is for her school. There are several state board directors that you can contact too Gayle Rugla who retired from the Space Center and Carrie Barnetta lives in Eddyville and Cyndi Thompson works for the Red Cross I think. Almost everybody in Girl Scout is a volunteer anymore. Good Luck! Great group--switch troops if you need to.

I tried signing up my daughter this year too. She goes to Concord. The lady was awful. Took forever to get in touch with her and then she was very rude. I think her name was Chris. Don't know even if she had a kid there. She kind of scared me to leave my kid there. Thought about another troop but they said this lady was over Paducah.

I have had my daughter in two different troops thru school and both were pitifully at best. The 1st leader didn't have a drivers license and we had to meet at a housing project on a Friday night, I did not feel safe at all!! The 2nd one was just 2 girls and the leader actually lived out of town. We had maybe 5 meetings the whole year. It really really made my daughter not like scouts because of the adults in charge. We are done trying at this point and that's sad because my daughter really wanted to involved.

Excuse me!!?? We tried two different troops thru school, I did try to get her involved but had absolutely no luck at all. Maybe the girl scouts should screen potential"leaders" a little better. Would you want to take tour child to elmwood court
after dark?? I didn't think so.

I would not have even showed up at the housing authority. Hell no! I agree with you

All the leaders are volunteer. If you don't like the leaders, you volunteer to be a leader. The parents that want to bitch are the ones that don't want to be involved as leaders. People want to use it as a babysitting service. I was a leader because there was no one to lead a troop for my daughter. I've done all parts of the troop. (Cookie chair, leader, asst. leader, etc.). Takes a lot of work and time but very rewarding.

I did stay with my daughter at all of her meetings, did cookie booths, etc but it's ultimately the leaders fault if they take it on knowing they were not going to be in this state 1/2 the year. The screening process should be a little more thorough. It really turns alot of girls away from scouts, which is sad because I remember having a blast as a girl scout.

Chris is not over Paducah. She is just a really active volunteer parent. All volunteers go through background checks. I am sorry your daughter had a bad experience in Scouting. My son and daughter loved Scouting. Leaders come and go and some are a little different but diversity is a part of life.

Correction. Chris is not over this region. Thank goodness she isn't. There would not be anyone left in this region. Your right she does look scary. My daughter was in her troop & we had to get out. The school don't like her either. Volunteer or not there still should be a screening process.

What was the leaders name that was gone out of state? My friends little girls leader did something like that and left with the money. Still haven't heard from her.

I have never had a negative experience with Chris, and my daughter looks forward to Girl Scouts every other week. Can you imagine what its like to be a leader, and have to do nearly everything on your own? Step up and help out if you want your daughter to participate. Too many people in this world expect everything to be done for them.

Because I do not have the time to take it on full time, thats why I do not volunteer to lead a troop. I know its more than a meeting a week, craft and snack and I do not have the time. I did make myself available and stayed to help out at meetings and outings. I did far more than most parents that I came across. Never once did I drop my child off and leave. Face it, we encountered two of the bad apples and it soured the who batch for my kid. Why is that so hard for you to swallow?

I feel the same way not good. Sure its volunteer but if your just going to be mean or not do a good job then why do it at all. And mom you can consider yourself lucky if you say you have not had problems with Chris because the rest of your "region " has. Get Chris out and people will be more willing to help. Quality people.

Or, you could just start you're own, since you are so concerned about it. And, given one of the statements above, the 'rest' of the region has not.

I am just putting my experience out here, like it or not. We have plenty to keep us busy without scouts it just unfortunate for the kids involved with bad troops. Its evident that "mom" is either Chris or a close friend or family member because she just can't accept the fact that ultimately girl scouts have let alot of girls down in this region. There is a great saying from the one and only dr Phil, "you can't fix what you don't acknowledge". Peace out, I have a super busy day :-)

I don't think Chis is anything but a parent and leader. She is not paid by Girl Scouts, she was just posting about looking for a job. Doubt she is over this area. I just don't think a lot of the well to do children are in girl scouts, so you are not gonna get a top notch leader. As far as the projects, that must not have been a Concord troop, they have meetings at the school.

Actually, I only know Chris because she is the Girl Scout Leader. Appalling that just because someone does not have a problem with a person, it indicates they must be family. Wrong. Further appalling is that an adult, and a mother at that, would get on here and bash someone who, regardless of your differences, is willing to do a difficult and time-consuming job for nothing. If you are so concerned about this, you would approach Ms. Chris like an adult, but trashing someone is the hallmark of childishness, and I am thankful that you are too 'busy' to lead a troop, because I would not want my child anywhere near yours. No, thanks, Not Good . . . I can do without your regurgitation of Dr. Phil's advice. As a counselor myself, I think the problem here is more likely one you will not acknowledge . . . yourself. Thank you, and have a nice day yourself.

All of this aside, my thing is how more then one person is on here saying she is scarey or odd looking??? Hello, she is human and very capable of getting on here and reading this! Have you ever considered her feelings? You can say whatever you want about the way she runs scouts but to talk about her in that was is awful and very low. You must think very badly of yourself to get on here a an adult and a mother and talk about another adult like that! How sad! I know there is alot of trashing on this site, but she is not one of the crazies on here doing it, she is a good person a human and a momma too! I can not understand how you can sleep at night. I didn't know we had such low trash at Concord! I'm honestly shocked! Be an adult and deal with this like an adult!
I agree, I'm glad my child is not in scouts with your child and hope your child is not someone my child ever has to be around bc I'm sure you a teaching them it is OK to be mean an nasty! Great parenting!
