Im curious as to why people think there are no jobs to be had? I have a nephew who has supposedly been seeking employment for months now. Same story everytime I talk to him. This evening, I thought I just cannot believe this kid (kid to me) cant find a job after all this time. I took it upon myself to google "Paducah Ky jobs" and the very first thing to pop up was a site called Indeed.com . Low and behold, There are 100s of jobs on there!! This is just 1 of the many other sites I saw. I could not believe my eyes! Is it really that hard to get hired around here? I would love to hear some feedback about this or if you know someone like this, or even trying to find work yourself. Not here to judge or blame, would just like an idea on what the holdup is, Thanks

There are jobs out there but these people who have been seeking employment for months don't want minimum paying job. They expect over minimum wage. Walmart and McDonalds is always hiring but these people think it will make them look bad because they work at these places. This is problem with whole america. Everyone wants to bitch about immigrants taking their jobs but yet they don't want to do jobs like immigrants do. Example. Mexicans they will work 7 days a week 12 hours shift. Show me any white make who is willing to do that. There is none because white guy is busy planning his weekend how he can go with his buddies and drink and spend money on some girl. I am just saying it the way it is. Day by day Americans are getting lazy. Sad but truth. Other countries are getting ahead
Of us. In a way I am glad that we are In this situation because maybe this will help America think once instead of their ego.

I just looked on Indeed.com unless you already have a similar job you can't get this one...

Entry level candidates with a BS, MS or PhD need NOT apply, as this client requires several years of related experience!!!!(University Research, other University related projects, or company internships do NOT qualify as experience!!!)

Only open to US Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) and US Citizens!!!

Have you looked at the jobs on indeed? Most are for specified knowledge - as posted by "jobs" person just above me...and the vast majority of the others are for long distance truck drivers. To James - not everyone can handle a minimum wage job if they're getting other benefits/unemployment and it's not enough. Sure, to most it's pride...but if you've gone through college just to GET a better job because you've been taught that college gives you better opportunities and that's the same dang reason why you attended college...well 1+1

I have applied to over 50 different jobs & some I was overqualified for but most I had everything they were looking for. I have a solid work history & no criminal or drug record & I still havent had any calls or interviews. So idk what the deal is. Most were on indeed too.

I moved down here and I had a good savings to keep myself afloat till I found something I liked instead of being forced to apply to something I didn't like. For 5 months, I got no callbacks, no interviews...nothing. And I didn't shoot for the moon, either. Even when my funds dwindled down and I went to a lower eyesight - I applied to everything BUT McDonalds and still had no luck...took me a good while to get something. You people that say "oh all these jobs" don't really get it. Actually put yourself in those shoes..and not back in the 1980s or 1990s...now. and if you have, and got something...you could have just gotten lucky..it's not so easy..even for those "menial" jobs.

If you even think that finding a dead end job is easy you have to be kidding yourself. Yes, there are a large number of job openings, however, there is also an even greater number of applicants. More importantly employers are hyper focused on finding the EXACT match to their job description. If you have 95% of what is on the job description you will end up in the rejection pile.

I graduated in May 2012 from Murray State University and just recently found employment. About 75% of my classmates work part time or not at all due to their lack of experience. Myself, I went to over 20+ interviews, drove 1000s of miles, and submited close to 1000 resumes.

After talking to many of the unemployed I have found out the majority want to work to provide for themselves and their families. Yes there are some who are lazy and do not want to work but from what I can see its a small percentage (<5% of the population)

Have some compassion for those in need and out of work. This country is in a hole and like the poster above me said this is not the roaring 1990s where a pulse can get you a job.
