<qu oted text>Ok then lets think about that I'm taking back what I PAY IN I'm not costing anybody a dime. One day I hope you are laid off of work or become sick and can't work and are forced to ask for help. Then you'll look at things differently. I never thought I'd be In the situation to use food stamps. It's embarrassing. You think I'm proud that my job ended and I had to take a huge pay cut and a different job and ask for help? You can think whatever you want. I know I work hard and am not a "welfare momma" and look forward to the day when I can afford my child's own insurance again and stop the benefits.
You are taking back what you pay in PLUS SOME! now "let's think about that" ....... You do not pay in as much as you take out. The medical card alone is more than you pay in. Plus food-stamps on top of that! And I have been on Medicaid before. I know what it's like. All I'm saying is I don't want to support all the lazy asses in housing. Go back and look at my original post. I was addressing the section 8 lazy people who suck off the system with free housing, medical, food stamps and a check. I never said anything about working people who need a little help.

That was my point exactly. Working people who need a little help aren't the moochers who are lazy.

No your point to me originally stated that I shouldn't group you with the welfare moochers (basically is what you said. Go reread it). FYI my comment wasnt directed towards people of your status. It was directed at the lazy people sucking the tax payers dry while we work and they get free food housing medical etc.(now go reread my first post)

So with all this being said, you shouldn't have taken offense in the first place. I wasn't directing my comment to people like you. I was very specific and clear as to who I was directing my opinions about.

City, county, everybody. We have an opportunity to go from 15th largest city in the state to 3rd!! Whether you want to admit it or not, that means more industry, more retail, more healthcare, more money, and a better life for all of us. EVERYTHING you do, in one way or another, involves Paducah whether you live in the current city limits or not. Pull your heads out of your a$$es, get over your aversion to "big bad change" and vote YES!!!
Will NOT bring any industry, money, jobs, healthcare or anything else. Well maybe taxs and oppressive codes.,

You seem to be the one with your head misplaced.

You must live IN TOWN! Apparently you haven't been out in the county if that's the way you think we live. If redneck pride is what we have, then I am proud of it. I like it just the way it is in the county. You can stay in town. We don't want to help you pay your taxes. By the way, It's a county jail.

Do the rite thing and vote NO! Cant gripe if you dont vote...considering lots of FELONS dwell in the city, it shouldnt be a worry anyway lol! Yes, keep thinking county folks are poor...id just assume people think im poor, then they wont try to break in when they run out of "goods" to hawk to the pawn shop when they need a hit or a fix. No good can come from this. Stick a sign in your yard if you can and make sure everyones aware of this non-sense.

Lone Oak has always been and always will be the tax revenue for this county. The middle class of Lone Oak have always carried this county. The city of Paducah is bankrupt. Their police department has always been a joke. Some good officers, but their command staff have been horrible since the 90's. Damn Paxton and Zumwalt ruined Paducah. They almost lost the quilt show. The residents will vote this down. West Paducahns are the only people I know of who want this. And they just got their mega school that Neil Archer has always wanted. We want Lone Oak back.

The city of Paducah is far from bankrupt, but if your point is that spend money foolishly, you are correct. In all seriousness, if it were not for the payroll tax collected from all the Reidland, Lone Oak, and Heath people, who work in town, the city would be bankrupt or city property taxes would be a lot higher.

As I go around the county it is obvious the NO merger people are spending a lot more money to mobilize their supporters than the Chamber/Business community, which is supporting it.

I hear they hired a Louisville PR company to advise them. They either spent all their money on the consultant, or he just gave them advice that didn't work in this community. What works in Louisville won't work in Paducah.

The merger will be defeated by a 2:1 margin.

It will eventually pass! You all will not even have a choice in the matter! Who voted to merge the city and county utility's. Water ?? They knew it was going to happen they already know this merger will be passed as well. Maybe not by vote but by a judge! And another thing the new school has been in the works for at least 15 yrs

I am not for the merger at all. But what you are saying does seem to be the truth. They want you to think you have a dog in the fight when you don't.

I'm voting for the merger. I can't believe someone would say that "we don't need any new businesses in Paducah". I will be graduating with my Bachelor degree within the next year and I'm alarmed at how few jobs there are in Paducah for my level of education that aren't in engineering or in the medical field. As much as I'd love to stay in Paducah and watch it grow - the job opportunities just aren't there if I want to make more than $12 or $13 an hour. Why do you think students go to UK or UofL and wind up staying? Job opportunities, more entertainment opportunities, more options for places to live (without buying a home), and they make more money (even with the higher cost of living).

Why wouldn't we want to give Paducah the opportunity to grow?

If you are silly enough to think that merging will help any of that, you obviously didn't get your degree in economics. A poor labor reputation and oppressive taxs and code enforcement are what is killing this area. Why would you locate a business here, with higher taxs and rediculously expensive earth quake restriction, when you can just locate it in Clarksville and avoid that and pay half the taxs to boot.

What you are missing is that combining the schools was legal without a vote. Like it or not, it was legal. Merging city and county is not legal without a vote. It can not be done . That is why no city county merger has ever happened without a vote. Would take a wholesale change in state laws to make this possible

You don't make any sense. With Merger we all will have a Stronger voice in all decision. Most people against it doesn't have a clue how taxes are use. To all the hard headed people that's against Positive growth an better service and most important LESS TAX. Learn how a Merge Government works before making ignorant comments.
