I wish people would not stereo type people. If someone feels the need to have a child then it should be their choice. There are just as many adults with children on welfare as there are teenagers. I mean really. There are some teenage mother's that are raising their children with NO help from father or state. I don't consider Medicaid welfare because a lot of businesses don't offer medical insurance.

I had a baby at 40 and 44 and 46 . I paid for my care. I had no problems. Blood pressure 106/ 68. Weight at 6 week checkup 110. I walked 4 miles per day right up to delivery. My kids have above average I.Q.'s. I receive no government assistance, so why would this be anyone's business?

It's not Antibes business but at 46? My opinion is that you are selfish. The child will suffer. You will be 64 when they graduate high school, 68 when they graduate college, and if they waited to the average age of 27 to have their first child, that would make you 73. Then if they have a second child 2 years later, that would make you 75. The average life expectancy is 78. So you will be so old that you won't be able to enjoy grand kids and your child will be making funeral arrangements at an early age. I know any one can die at any time, but let's think long term if you live the normal life expectancy. So to answer your question, it's no ones business. But since we are on topic and you felt the need to express your opinion, then I'm going to chime in and speak mine. Just sayin.....

Agree with Deja.
Maybe it's love. And wanting to create new life out of that real, unconditional love...and share it.

would it have been less selfish to have aborted her and ended her life? Btw, I had a tubal ligation after the one at 40. My husband had a vasectomy after the one at 46. So far, so good. I thank God for all my children every day. My parents lived well into their 90's so I think I'm good. In any case to choose life is always good.

I don't know why it would be an issue. I had my first one at 20 and then my next baby at 31. There are 11 freakin' years between my kids and I wouldn't have it any other way. If I ever decide to get pregnant again, I will definitely wait till my youngest is around 5 to 10 years old before I start trying... Which would put me at 36 to 41. Be encouraging to this mom of 40. If she does have any health issues with the baby or herself, try to help, instead of tearing her down. Is it really necessary to blast on Topix about someone's personal family choice?

Very high rate of Down syndrome (among other issues) at that age. Seems irresponsible to plan a pregnancy that late. There are many babies that need to be adopted.

My doctor said he had one patient with a down's syndrome baby and she was 28.
He also said age alone isn't the biggest cause of birth defects. He said a lifestyle of most women cause defects. I never drank, smoked or drugged. I ate right and exercised and some of it is just good genes, but we go back several generations with good clean living. I have never even had a cavity. I still think life is to be cherished.

At age 32 there is a 1 in 420 chance of Down syndrome. At 40 it jumps to 1 in 75.
