If you do have to fill out the online application for Marquette, get the phone number off of the website and follow up with a phone call to the human resource person. My other son(Swamp Donkeys brother) who is an experienced deckhand (been off the river for a few yrs though) applied that way and he got called for an interview this week. He was unable to do the paper ap due to his current job at a hardware store in town. Just keep pushing for that job. You will get one. Hiring is starting up now. Good luck!

Don't do online at Ingram. They go through those apps last. You're better off with a paper app.

Now is an excellent time to apply at many of the companies as the grain season is picking up. It is hard, physical work. It takes someone who is willing to be away from home for 30 days at a time and works well with others. You don't have to be experienced to be hired at Marquette as they have a Deckhand Trainee program. The average deckhand will make over $30K and the benefits are good. Marquette only accepts on-line applications at their website: marquettetrans.com .

Good luck to you.

Hi, i just called in to hr at Marquette for crew van driver position. I have my own transportation business but i will drive on of Marquettes vans if thats what they require. I have l few immediate family members in the river industry so i need to be home every night to "hold down the fort" so to speak. Most of these companies say experience is required for cook positions also. Does anyone know of companies hiring cooks without that type of experience. Does Ingram make exceptions?

What's the quickest way to apply? They say give it 14 days for online app to process.

Quickest way to apply is online. Paper aps are best at Ingram. Marquette Transportation only takes online aps and were recently hiring cooks. Job openings are listed online on their websites.

River work is hard and lonely at times, but the crews seem to work well together. I hope you get a job. The River industry is Paducah's largest employer. Good luck!

Actually they told my husband at Ingram when he went in and asked for an application that they no longer did paper apps that he had to apply online. We have been trying to get him out there for a while now. But no luck yet. He went in for an interview at inland and the guy says you are the last green deckhand we are considering. He said it will be a few weeks but we gotta find you a place to train. That has been a month from now and we have been steadily calling. But no news yet :(

Ok...my husband has worked there for years and my son also. Last March they were still taking paper aps. Good luck in your job search. If you dont hear something soon, tell him to apply at Marquette. I do know of some hires they have done lately.

How does it work with cooks? Is there someone who rides with you for a period of training?

At Ingram you have a training period at the dock for cooks and deckhands. You may try filing an application at the unemployment office.

If you have a good work ethic, its not uncommon to be in the wheelhouse after 5 years. A very good friend of mine was in the engine room after 3.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Virgo

It's a rather low-key day with a few disappointments to cope with along the way. If you were looking forward to a social event, such as meeting up with friends, it may fail to live up to your expectations. It might even be delayed or postponed through no fault of your own. There could also be problems about how much something is going to cost, forcing you to scale down your plans to make them more affordable.
