I am appauld of the the shooting of the mute swans on Rock Lake.
Maybe our tax $$ need to be spent more wisely. Our state senator should be ashamed of letting this happen. |

I too am appauled and deeply saddened that these birds were shot and killed. If they did not want them around, then do the humane thing and relocate them so they can live. Don't just come in and start killing things. What happened to humane treatment of animals?? It is just very sad.

I'm sorry but tell me how you are supposed to relocate these animals? They are very fierce and they are damaging vegetation. And I'm pretty sure that it doesn't cost tons of money to go and shoot a few swans so I wouldn't be complaining about tax dollars being spent.

Actually, I've been told the swans had been coming to these peoples' property for 14 years, were not a nuisance, and the people enjoyed them. What right did the DNR have shooting them at all? I have geese families that fill my yard with adorable babies, and before you know it we have 50-60 full size geese leaving a mess in our yard! I don't go out and shoot them, these big wild birds are a part of the area here (just like cranes). Doesn't make any sense.

These swans are a non-native species and need to be exterminated!

As long as the invasive mutes remain the beautiful and graceful trumpeters will not return. I support the DNR and would gladly help them. The residents were given the option to adopt and steralize the swans last year and they did not do that so their deaths are on the residents heads.

Funny how the DNR, an agency designed to protect wildlife, is exterminating it. The idea of protecting habitat from "invasive species" for weaker species is a backwards mentality. If a species moves in and takes over, then that species is dominant. Survival of the fittest applies. Without those environmental stresses, evolution doesn't happen. They are trying to prevent existing habitats from experiencing these stresses, which is a losing battle. Besides, the most "invasive" species, is in fact, human.

I emailed the DNR to help remove the raccoons that moved in under my cabin. They said that's not their job! I would've loved it if they would've moved the swans in and took the raccoons! How can I get rid of these raccoons without it costing me an arm and a leg? It's already cost me all my flower bulbs!
