Does anyone have any real info on the upcoming mayoral race? Curious what people are thinking about which candidate is the favorite.

Please spare me the jokes and hateful comments.

Well judging by the signs that are up its Counts and nobody else. As far as Borgelt goes she really isnt the person that we need as Mayor of this community. I think Counts will win with ease but you never know I have seen some weird things lately when it comes to politics in Arnold.

Signs do not vote. Get your neighbors to the poll. Do not be timid about asking them.

Ron Counts has proven positive track record. He has been a member of this community his entire life and as a resident and business owner he is very much invested in Arnold. I once had an issue with some work done by employees in his shop and went to talk to him about it. We had a bit of a disagreement but he never held it against me and was always fair and friendly to me thereafter and I think we have a very good relationship now. This shows me that he is a fair man who cares about his city and does not hold grudges. I have even seen him treat his opponent Doris with grace and dignity after she has slung mud at him all over the internet.

My personal experience with Doris has been extremely unpleasant. That aside, the Leader has tales of her slash-and-burn methodology just about every week. She has cost the taxpayers thousands in legal fees although she likes to blame others for it. For example: She filed a request for the sign-in sheet for visitors at City Hall, which she was denied because the administration felt it would compromise citizens' privacy and they should be able to come to City Hall to meet with government officials without having everyone know. Doris fought this all the way to the state attorney general's office. The state AG directed Arnold to release the list but because Arnold had not believed it to be public record the list had already been destroyed - because who keeps sign-in sheets forever anyway? Anyway, this involved all kinds of attorney fees and city employee time etc.

That is only one instance in an ever growing pattern. I do not believe Doris Borgelt is good for the community at all. She does not work cooperatively to better the community. She works AGAINST people. That is not just my opinion, it has been well documented in the Leader, the Patch, even the P-D. And that is the biggest problem with our government at all levels today. They just will not work together for the betterment of the society.

The bottom line is this: Mayor Counts is running a clean campaign, has not said anything against Doris in public and has been very gracious to her in spite of her behavior. Doris is running a dirty campaign, smearing Mayor Counts on her Facebook page and in these forums.

Who would you rather have leading your town?

And don't forget her harassment of individual citizens by stalking (example is Mike Evans in this forum). She seems to accuse eveyone of having "mental instabilities" (taken from Facebook page post on Mike Evans and from a thread on here that no longer exists named after me) that doesn't agree with her.

We need someone like Counts that respects differing opinions and doesn't trash or bully people. And the sign in sheet debacle was because the city employees didn't get her a Christmas gift and she got mad. My understanding was it all happened on the same day. The lesson would be that you don't treat people with disrespect, disdain or ordering them like they are servants. And yes, I have friends at City Hall. Now the question is will she come after me like the Gold Buyers?

How little you really see and know is very evident in your posts. Knowing the laws and when the mayor choooses to apply them should be a number one priority. That has not been the case for the past 12 months.

I never understood that whole sign in sheet debacle. What was it she was trying to show by getting the list?

Nobody knows. That's why I believe the omitted Christmas gift story from my friend. It was too coincidental that it happened on the same day.

Who will ever know since the attorney told them to destroy them even after the attorney general said to hand them over.

Mayor Counts has accomplished nothing except paying a million or more for a corner intersection that was not budgeted for. Everything he said he was against when he ran the first time he is for now. I can tell you he told me personally that he wanted Bob Sweeney out and now he loves the guy. I can tell you he had nothing but mean words about Phil Amato that he told me personally and guess what? He loves the guy now. I guess if you can't beat them you join them.

Since Counts belongs to the biggest church in Arnold I'm pretty sure he may win. Does he deserve to be Mayor again? No I don't think so. He cannot even control his council meetings. I think a bunch of grade school kids could handle themselves better.

It is my understanding from reading on here there were many political folks going in and out that were not signing because they didn't want anyone to know they were there. Only Joe blow was having to sign. If everyone was suppose to sign why wasn't EVERYONE signing it.
Only one reason it was destroyed ! Very convenient !

Yes counts has been around along time. I have known about his shenanigans all the way back to him having strippers at his auto body Xmas parties to lap dance the ins. adjusters. Huge laugh by many when he started running for school board and found the FBCA. I personally know two that was there.

Many a secret meeting was held at that autobody shop for selection of school board candidates. I also personally know one that was there for that.
BOE didn't work out so well , bourasaw reeped a huge reward.

Mayor ? Well I don't think anyone has had to dig very deep to come up all the cover ups and money wasted there.
During his campaign he stated he would do away with red light scamaras. He did nothing !
It is very obvious in my opinion Pee wee is running this town. Counts is just a warm hiney in the seat. Huge huge mistake.
On a scale of 1 to 10 . I give it a 3.5
So NO vote here ! An orangutan could fill that seat for Peewee and at least be far more entertaining.

And considering the contract wasn't up and he didn't have a majority on the council when it did come up how was he supposed to get rid I them. That was a low blow picking on something out of his hands.

If you vote for Doris then you will have an orangutan running the city.

So post the documented proof of all of the accusations you have made in this post. I see a lot of them. Affidavits, e-mails, legal documents, video, pictures...post something to substantiate all of it. If you don't then we will all k ow you are making it up as you go along.

I too have heard talk that Counts belongs to a certain church,(we all know which,) and that same church has enough membership to influence or even decide the outcome of the election.

Am I the only one who believes in separating religion and government? I know for a fact that there are persons who are in places of power in this town, who have joined that church only to further their cause. To get the backing of a large group of voters and people who can help their future.

Say it isn't so

It isn't. Churches cannot tell parishioners who to vote for or they will lose their NFP status.

Not exactly true. Over 150 churches went together last year (and more are joining this April) to send the IRS videos showing them that they actively were endorsing a candidate(s) from the pulpit. They are daring the IRS (government) to come after them. They have been doing this for almost 10 years now and not once has the gorvernment come after even ONE CHURCH.

WHY??????????

The answer is simple. THERE IS NO SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE IN THE CONSTITUTION.

If the government comes after even one church then they will sue the government and it will go to the Supreme Court where it will be deemed unconstitutional and violates first amendment rights of the church.

That is why they (the government) have not gone after churches and will not do so. NOT ONE CHARGE OR CASE TO DATE.

Did anyone watch an HBO series called Carnivale, I think. There was a pastor of a church who provided food, shelter and clothing to his flock during the dust bowl times and when asked how his flock would vote, he replied "Any way I tell them to." This was a classic good versus evil story line. Sounds a little bit like what you are talking about here.

Why would you want a mayor who appointed (essentially promoted) the police chief as interim city administrator while he is named as a defendant in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former police officer? How much is that costing the city?

Agreed, why would you want a mayor who thought it was a good idea to give the former city administrator $70,000 to resign? Why would you want a mayor who was not bothered by a 1.5 million accounting mistake, or a million dollar overrun on the CVS project. The same mayor who when on the board of education gave that superintendent a new contract and then a couple of months later bought out her contract and sent her down the road? Why would you trust a man who was bitter enemies with Phil Amato and Bob Sweeney and now that election time has rolled around they are best of friends. Hmmmmm, strange bedfellows, don't you think? When Democrats(Phil and Bob) and Republicans(Ron Counts) join together there is definitely something going on and it isn't on the up and up.

You don't give someone $70,000 to resign and make them sign a non-disclosure agreement. That is something that people get when someone wants them to keep their mouth shut. It's called hush money for a reason.
