I was disappointed that I only caught the tail-end of the show with Bob Sweeney, the former Arnold city attorney. Hopefully it will be on the website and I can catch the rest of it. There is a reason he is the former and not the present. I would be happy to provide you a videotape of last night's complete meeting that Mr. Sweeney was referring to on the show this morning which I might add he did not attend.. Things just didn't happen the way he presented them.
First a little background....Mr. Sweeney is not as pristine or as put upon as he would have you believe. Currently, his mother Kathleen Rhymer is the Treasurer of a Political Action Committee known as the Citizens for a Better Arnold. This same committee accepted a donation from Clayco for $7500 at the end of March. Clayco recently worked very closely with Wolpert on the Danforth project. Wolpert is the company that was under consideration for this project and suggested by city staff.
At the meeting last evening when the subject of the sewers came up, council members were concerned that there was a local company available that, according to city staff, was quite qualified to do this particular sewer job, Fribis Engineering. At the recent Arnold Economic Summit it was concluded by citizens, business owners and elected and appointed city officials, that we should try to use local companies as often as possible and whenever possible for city contracts in an effort to stimulate the local economy. That being said, the council wanted a chance to see what criteria was used and chose to table this matter until they can view the presentations themselves.
Prior to his departure, Mr. Sweeney was milking the citizens of Arnold for $200,000+/- per year for a part-time position, when his gravy train was derailed. He pursued needless litigation on numerous occasions. He has had questionable dealings concerning a $186,000 contract that was awarded to Forefront Organizing by Jefferson County 911 last year as he was their attorney of record. That contract was subcontracted to P.O.W.E.R. of which Bob Sweeney is the Vice-President. A little delving into that organization will find Glenn Burleigh, local spokesman for ACORN.
This is just a tiny sampling of the corruption and how they are all interconnected, that I have been following for the last five years here in good old Arnold, MO. I can tell you I have been called everything in the book by the politicians and their "corporate sponsors." I haven't backed down so far and I don't plan on it anytime soon. Any questions you have or any documentation you might want to see, just let me know, I'd be happy to provide it.
