New Years Resolution

I have just recently found this forum when researching the Arnold/Imperial area. My excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I realized how volatile this forum is. I attempt to stay aware and informed of local and national politics and business; never being bias to the fact that every side could be trying to mislead or skew the truth, let alone the hate for anybody opposing a personal belief.

I could have easily closed my browser never to return again, which I may very well do, but not without saying this. Everybody should make an effort in 2014 to at least take a moment to think about the words that will come out of their mouths.

I am not saying "do not voice your opinion or belief about a topic."

I am as mad as anybody else about how dysfunctional our government is, but I am more embarrassed at how dysfunctional our community is. Do you really believe yelling hate or immature rhetoric is winning anything...is your point more proven.

I am guilty. I acknowledge I could be a better person, can you? Let's make 2014 a year that we are better to our neighbors. Can you imagine how Arnold is looked upon to Web surfers or potential residence that click on this site to get to know our community and this is what they get to see.

I wish everybody the best year that you could possibly have.

That would be nice! Unfortunately there is one mentally ill female (who is a former Arnold Council member) who likes to stir the pot. I have learned that you cannot fix crazy. This maybe negative but it is the truth.

[hangs head in despair]
[sighs] aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I remember something funny my four year old always says. The saying actually comes from a Jack in the Box commercial advertising for the late-night box meal. It is when the puppet-Jack says "let's go" and flys up out of the screen; the guy sitting next to him says "wait, I can't fly." Here's the funny part...then Jack replies with, "Not with that attitude." --- ha-ha, classic.

A concept a four year old can understand, how attitude can influence behavior. I, again, urge anybody that has instant negative reactions to take a second to breath and look at a bigger picture. It is an action that requires effort and training, but it could happen. It is not as easy as posting anonymous negative rants, but does that really make anybody feel better.

I am 33 years young, so I realize I am just a kid and may not be as wise as my elders; though I do vaguely remember some old proverb about a pot and a black kettle, or something like that, but I'm not racist I promise. I am also not naive, I understand pessimism and how cynical mass population can be. I know how jaded our society is as a whole, I also know there are a lot of inspirational, positive, hard-working people that try everyday to make this world better. Which piece of the whole do you want to be part of?

There is a crazy lady running a muck (allegedly) That is what 90% of every thread bottlenecks into. "Doris B...this, Such-&-Such...that". Again, I refer to my two little boys because that is the best example I can think of, when they argue. "Logan did this!", "No I didn't", "yes you did", "no i didn't". "yes you did", etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.et c.etc.etc. ENOUGH!

It is sad, that is the real truth. It is sad that grown adults cannot practice civility that we preach to our kids. The whole "do what I say not as I do" Imagine if we said to our 4 year old if somebody isn't nice to you then berate them and yell in their face until the teacher says you are right. But we are even more malicious, we hide behind keyboards, spewing hate with no accountability or repercussions, so sad indeed.

So, Mr. or Mrs. Its Not Going To Happen, I ask one small favor. Before you reply to any other posts. take a measly 5 minutes and watch this video. It could very much change your life!!!!

As your elder, I'm not watching your video. And I have refrained from commenting on this post until now. It's wonderful that you have a new found attitude in life and feel it necessary to share it. But people are people and will do what they want and when you post asking people to behave a certain way, they will act the opposite just to spite you (just like your kids to use your own analogy).

It is a harsh world out there and you should probably put on your big boy/girl pants and face it. It's nice you have one accusation in your post. Another attacker is what I will label you. But if you have refrained from posting to avoid the hostility this long then maybe should should consider to continue to refrain. And if you don't like this forum, nobody is forcing you to read it.

You cannot order people around like you are the boss of them. That is why so many soldiers have given their lives so that we have the freedom to voice our opinions. But I don't expect you to respect them either.

When you spew the crap you have above it makes people view you as a person that believes they are holier than thou. And I don't respect people that don't think they are equal to everyone else.

I have spoken my "negative" but realist piece. Take it for what it is.

[hangs head even lower, slowly shaking it side to side]

okay,.......I had to re-read my post because obviously my lighthearted attempt to bring civility to a community forum was not received the way I intended. Maybe I should disclose more about myself.

FYI...

I have no affiliation to anybody of political nature, I am not on a "side" and I definitely wouldn't agree with the label "attacker".

I am working-class blue collar, married for 7 years, have two little boys. And live just trying to make ends meet. I think that qualifies me for knowing what harsh is.

Despite hardships, I enjoy life and have had this attitude for a long time. I share with the important people in my life, and thought it would be nice to share with my neighbors.

"It is what it is" is one of my favorite quotes. I did not mean to make my suggestions sound like orders. If you choose not to watch a video, no harm no foul. I think you're missing out. That is the opinion I am free to voice thanks to my Grandpa, two Uncles, and two Cousins or as you call them, soldiers, they would probably prefer being called Marines.

Finally, I can guarantee, I am not the type of person that thinks he is holier than anybody. Humility has kept me in check. I know my flaws. I make an effort not to judge others.

I don't know if this gives you better understanding of where I am coming from or what kind of person I am. I usually do not post on forums because I feel it is like skipping stones in the ocean. Tides of "hostility" quickly engulf any ripple of good-will I could make.

I will take you advice and avoid this hostile environment, but what happens when I go to Schnucks or Target on Vogel, or when I go to the Rec Plex or Library, or even your beloved council meetings. You are part of my community and I will do my part to confront hostility with civility. My best wishes for you in 2014, I know there is a lot of crap you are going to have to put up with and I really wish you good luck.

People are people, this is true. I will continue to be the person I want to be. I choose to be positive, thoughtful, kind, respectful, strong, and good. You have the power to choose who you want to be.

Take it for what it is.

That is a very good thought Benjamin! But your time would be better served handing miss lettucehead a straight jacket and some very strong medication.
Thank God there is another forum and she isn't welcome lol
