I was reading up on the candidates for assessor and found out that Danny Gray was assessor in Douglas county a few years ago. He resigned before his term was up. Does anyone know the reason he resigned? It might be important to know.

I know Danny very well and have for many years. He is a decent hard working man. He resigned and left Ava after going through a very hard divorce. As everyone knows there are always lots of lies and rumors associated with divorce. He just needed a change of scenery and lifestyle.

It probably didn't hurt that he expected the governor to appoint him to the assessor position if he lived in Christian County, just saying. He does seem like one of 2 good guys though.

Visitor, I can see how you would think that. The truth is, I personally called Danny and asked him to apply for the position. He was an excellent Assessor in Douglas county (where I work as a surveyor) and will make an excellent Assessor for Christian county. Don't believe the rumors.

As a voter I always approach the candidates and ask questions that I have or that I've heard people say and his answers have always made me feel confident that Mr. Gray will do an excellent job as our Assessor. If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Stokley was appointed by Governor Nixon, so we didn' t have the opportunity to vote for the Assessor of our choosing. Now's our chance. I personally had Mr. Stockley make the comment to me questioning, why Mr. Gray left Douglas County. Since I had already asked Mr. Gray, and answered my question, I found Mr. Stokley's comment , very inappropriately.

The fact that a person has gone through a personal situation such as divorce, doesn't remove their obligation to voter's who placed them in office. Mr. Gray's resignation begs the question of whether he is committed to the voters and to the obligations of an elected official. There is no doubt that either candidate could do the work of the office but, which one will hold up to the obligation? Mr. Gray has that question mark on his record.

Finley, you raise a valid point. Perhaps you would like to attend the debate at the OC this friday at 6:30 pm. You will have the chance to meet and talk to both canidates. Approach it as you granting them both a job interview. Which one would you hire?

Yes, we learned quite a bit about the true character of the canidates. One was very professional, the other was very desparate.
I expect we'll see another example of just how desparate when the Headliner comes out this week.

Wow, I wanted to know what was up with the ad in the Headliner. When Mr. Stokely was asked to explain his allegations of profiting from software sales while serving as Douglas County Assessor, I expected Mr. Stokely to have some knowledge of wrong doing. Why would he just spout accusations without even checking his facts.

Oh, what was up with the experience question? Mr. Stokely said it was a "gotcha" question and then never answered it. Wasn't he claiming to have more experience than Mr. Gray because of the size of the county? I picked up some information about Mr. Gray's education and experience compared to Mr. Stokely's. Why exactly did the Governor appoint him? He seemed arrogant, unqualified and dishonest. I guess I don't understand what is up with that race. Perhaps I should have submitted a question...I wanted to know why Mr. Stokely was firing off accusations without being able to back them up with proof. Can't you get sued for that?
I'm curious what the Headliner is going to put out next week. It seems like they have really been pushing Mr. Stokely.

It still doesn't make sense that a person would leave an office he is qualified for and elected to because of personal reasons and then seek the office in another county. If it's bad enough to quit one place what change has happened in 6 months to make him comfortable to want to be appointed by the governor to another county. The Republicans of Christian County should be embarased that they ran a damaged candidate out of another county for the assessor office and not a resident of Christian county.

It's been 3 years since mr. Grey left Douglas county. He is not damaged goods. In fact always did his job very well and In the most professional manner. I would vote for him with no hesitation.

He left to take a job with an assessment company that was a great opportunity. The slowdown in the economy and housing sales and assessments caused things to slow down in that area as well as many others.

So he hung Douglas county out for a paycheck. If the economy comes back he may leave Christian county for a paycheck. Dave Stokely was wiped out by a tornado, he didn't pick up and leave Christian county, He re-built and started again.

I'm beginning to wonder if Baldknobber is actually David Stokely. I wish people would use their real names here.
