From the Joplin Independent:
Rockaway Beach, MO Car junkies will be able to take a trip down memory lane, side-by-side with vintage vehicles like a 58 Ford Retractable Top, a 36 Chevy street rod or a '53 custom Mercury. The Rockn N Rockaway Multi-Vehicle Show, a fund-raiser for the LUC Boys Ranch in Lampe, will feature antique cars and trucks, motorcycles, muscle cars, lowriders, imports and a lot more from around the Ozarks and beyond. The show will take place on Father's Day weekend, June 19-21, 2009, downtown on Main Street along Taneycomo Lake. Twenty-three classes of vehicles will be judged, including two classes for the younger generation bicycles and model cars. A cruise will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 19. The route is from Powersite Park on Y Highway in Forsyth, through the town to Rockaway Beach where a dance is scheduled. Dave VanEvery of the Rockaway Beach Boosters said,This show is more than just a fundraiser for the LUC Ranch. It is also to show how much Rockaway Beach has changed for the better over the past few years because of the local groups of concerned citizens and businesses. Trophy and t-shirt sponsorships are still available. For information on who to contact for sponsorships or entrance requirements call City of Rockaway Beach. |

WHAT? Did you even show up at the show? Not one single teeny weeny (like your mind) time was it ever mentioned that 200 cars "WERE" going to show up. What "WAS" said was, and I quote " If all of the people that were spoken too and letters sent too or called about the show showed up, there "COULD" be 200 or more cars, I am expecting 50+ cars". And hey, guess what dip stick, 48 paid entries and 23 other cars showed up after the registration time, so by my count how many does that make, can you tell me? Oh thats right, small minded - 71, ta da. And according too a couple of very reliable sources, one being a participant at the Rods and Relics show, we had ALOT more people than at that show. So how the heck can you say it was a flop? Now how about telling all of us what you have done to promote the city lately, ok how about the last couple of months, years? I think that the only joke is the one sitting in front of your computer screen!!!!! |

Actually it was a tremendous job-well-done by all who put this on, especially being a first time event! Trying to piece together just the right amount of venders for the anticipated amount of people and then obtaining participants and sponsorships. What a juggling act as the venders want more people and the people want more venders. Both must be convinced that the other will be there, and both were timid about trusting that the other would be there. Some of the venders broke this trust by not being at their posts at certain opportune times such as when there were sudden rushes of people. Others broke the trust by not being there on Sunday at all. This sent the wrong message to the people who showed up on Sunday as the event was advertised for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Many people did not show up because there were no venders at some other recent events such as the boat races. However, overall it was certainly a success and something to build on next year. The auto participants had very high praise and they are the ones who should know. Any vender disappointed about a lack of money made this year should know that they are earning their spurs for possible exclusive venderships in the future as this event continues to grow and grow. The reward now is being in on the ground floor. But, the heros who put this on were there from the first minute to the last and and did not make a single dime. I think they deserve better than the above comment. And while I'm at it, how about another plug for all the sponsors??? I will be sponsoring them all right back and will bring friends, THANKS so much!!! |

First of all congratulations to the fine people who put this great event together, to the many fine sponsors who spent there time and $$ to PROMOTE it, there are fine folks out there who look forward and not out there backside like you!! It is a start, and we will get better, all the positive folks tell us so, frog, find a lilly pad and croak your life away, we aren't listening. On- ward and up-ward to the promoters, sponsors, and everyone involved in this great event. |
