All in inocent fun hmm. What goes up must come down and at the same rate of speed.. a bullet in the air forms an arc and you don't have any idea where it will come down... say a skylight window in a childs room that is just above the bed of a sleeping baby?

The responsible gun owners I know who fire guns out in the country have a target at which they aim. Guns are by law legal to own. Thank God. Let's not give the few who wish them ilegal any more reason to want to ban them. Respect your gun, your neighbors and yourself.

We are all one world and we all have live here.

I am not trying to offend of step on anyones toes here, but this is just another perfect example of what is wrong with teenagers today. The parents! This mother is condoning what her son did. She even stated that it is tradition, and everyone was doing it. Its simple minded, irresponsible parenting like that that leads our children to become irresponsible adults themselves. This boy knows that firing an assault rifle into the air is NOT okay, but hey if his mommy says do it then why not? Parents need to step up and set limits. Teach our children right from wrong. Many terrible things could have happened that night. What would mommy have said then? It was an accidednt, he didnt mean to shoot a person or damage property so he shouldnt be punished? NO Take responsibility. Grow up and put the guns down, unless you are a licenses carrier and know proper handling of any firearm. Guns can be fun for target shooting and what-not, but only if you are trained and completely know what you are in control of. Guns should never be shot nor handled by anyoone just "keeping with tradition".

Has anyone never explained to these people that the REASON for these laws is that: "what goes up must come down"? Hmmm...a law that's older than Ft.Smith if memory serves.

I have an SKS mainly for nostalgia sake because it reminds me of the AK-47. It's main advantage is it's cheap. It would be the last gun I'd use for self-defense because after hitting the target it might go through two or three houses. Never mind illegal it is stupid to fire any gun up in the air anywhere even if no one is around because obviously you are. Last time I bought bullets for it you could only get steel ones so going through roofs are a given on the way down. I am afraid to shoot the thing anywhere. If you've seen what these things will do on purpose then you know they will do the same by accident. One possibility is this guy doesn't know. One is he doesn't care. I have already mentioned the third one.

This is extremely aggravating. How can anyone be so careless and thoughtless? I have family that live very near this neighborhood. The cops need to spread the word next year this won't be tolerated. Gunshot tracking technology exists which would lead to these individuals.

Another example of scum that comes from poor or lack of parenting..Send this guy away for a few years! He already is a felon...which shows he has no regard for laws that are put in place to protect us.

Lawmakers define an assault rifle as a gun with a pistol grip, a flash suppressed muzzle, and bayonet lug capable of locking a bayonet, and the capacity to hold over ten rounds.

SKS does not have a pistol grip, or muzzle flash so legally by law, and it only holds ten rounds, so it is not an assault rifle.

However, the Obama legislation is working on a new law defining assault weapons as anything that holds more than 10 rounds. Under that law my .22 is an assault rifle, but my SKS is still not.:)

Now, stupid people that go around abusing guns without respecting them are the reason our rights as gun owners are being trampled on!

This author should learn about paragraphs, and firearms. It is only an assault rifle if it has the capability to be fired both semi-automatic, and automatic. An SKS does not have this capability.

As others have already pointed out, the SKS, is not an assault rifle by any definition.

Ah, but calling it an "assault rifle" makes for a so much more interesting story....

Myth busters already busted the falling bullet myth. but still why fire a high powered rifle in close proximity to others homes? you dumb A** its people and parenting such as this that threaten the rights of us who do obey laws. next time eat an m-80 instead of risking your neighbors safety. go down to the bottoms and shoot at midnight you dont have to shoot straight up you could find a safe direction to fire all the rounds you want. if memory serves an sks is chambered in 7.62x39 if you can afford to waste your ammo why not hone your skills constructively.
