It's not a speed "trap" if you go the speed limit! And why must you label it a hick town?? That's unnecessary.

This is my hometown; yes, I have noticed more young officers and the new kids on patrol tend to be a little more anxious to maintain safe roads or at least make sure they are doing what they are told by our city government. Every time I drive on US 231 within the city limits I am passed by people driving very excessive speeds in areas with clearly posted limits. Some of these tractor trailers coming through put us all in danger when they blast through small towns. Drive a reasonable speed and the OPD will not bother you.

Montgomery is the only place I've gotten a ticket in 10 years time; they have an unmarked charger that will drive wrecklessly to pull over people driving with the flow of traffic in a dangerous area for both the officer and the citizen tricked by a speed limit drop when you are on the highway.
Midland City has always been the speed trap of South AL, by the way. The answer to all this-don't drive more than 5 mph over the posted limit.

Ozark has a growing number of good paying civil service jobs thanks to the Federal funding of Ft. Rucker's Army Aviation training facilities and the diversity we have disqualifies any "hick town" labels these people driving through on the way to the FL Gulf Coast want to use.

What is it about legal speed limits you don't understand ?? Regardless of the flow of traffic , if the speed limit is marked 55 and you are going 65 , that is illegal !!!! Have the officials change the signs if you want to go faster!!!!

Ozark PD are a bunch of Jack-Booted Thugs. They pull people over and write tickets for doing the speed limit. People need to refuse to shop in Ozark till the local businesses can convince the city to get their police department under control. This is not Nazi Germany this is the US, Ozark PD has to go.

I agree if you drive a nice car through Ozark you will get a ticket even if you are doing the speed limit. Ozark PD will assume you have money and will extort it from you, and use the courts as their willing accomplice. If you go to court you are guilty, even if you prove that you are not. Most of the businesses have fled Ozark and the city is suffering monetarily. Corruption and mismanagement runs rampant in Ozark, especially in the Police Department, the courts, and city hall. It's best to stay away from Ozark and let it die.

Yes, it is a speed trap. Get this it is Thanksgiving day at 5 pm. and I am traveling through the hick town around 32 miles per hour. Now for some odd reason its posted right as you come down this hill at the bottom for 25 limit. You have natural speed and then bam a speed limit sign that is definately set to low. I see the Barney Fife pull out of his spot to come after me. He says I was going 42 mph which is rediculous. But what can you say? Yes it is speed trap! Its Thanksgiving Day could you not at least give a warning!

Speed traps are common, it seems. Elba's is when you're trying to slow down going downhill on hwy 84 towards downtown. My car wants to do about 50 down that hill if I don't ride my brakes. And yes, I did clock it one night just to see.

And then, there's Blakely in GA. Unless it's changed, don't ever go thru there about half asleep and unfamiliar with the speed-limit!

Only someone from Ozark would consider it anything but a "Hicktown"

Yeah the streets and speed limits in Ozark are set up for the sole purpose of raising revenue. The speed on 231 north goes from 50 to 40 coming into town then jumps up to 50 again. Be very careful there is a dirty non reflective sign that says 40 right behind it, and the police around here just love to write tickets out there. The speed limits are so confusing on 231 that people not from here can't keep up with what the speed limit is. But the police don't do anything to the big rigs that routinely fly through there, and thats where the real danger is. Then you have a 4 lane highway Andrews Ave going to Ft Rucker. The police camp out there too and write tickets all day long. There is nothing on that 4 lane highway and no reason for the speed limit to be so low other than to extort money. Then they go outside of city limits and try to enforce the speed limit out there where they don't even have jurisdiction, and the law 32-5A-171 specificly forbids it. Thats a class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

I like how the police can write tickets and harass people all the time, but when they are called they take forever to get there, if they show up at all. Half the time If they do show up there is nothing they will do. Then they wonder why most of the citizens of Ozark absolutely HATE the police dept here, no wonder they have a hard time getting citizens to cooperate with them or tell them anything. You can't trust the crooks. I won't even call the police anymore I'll handle it myself. The police chief may not be elected but his bosses certainly are. Elections are coming shortly, and the mayor and city council will be held accountable. I will not vote for anyone who does not plan to make some serious changes at the police dept, including the leadership.

I agree with the up and down speed limits and the big rigs doing 55 all the way through Ozark on 231 hwy. It has to be a trap. The response when calling in, is bad. Maybe it's because I live very close to the worse part of town. Something happened this last Saturday night May 1 that I still can't find out what went down. There was law officers, lots, guns drawn.

Ozark is most certainly a speed trap. I pass through all the time but don't ever spend a dime. I recieved a ticket when I absolutely was not speeding. The guy in front of me was speeding and ran the light but the cop stopped me because he could not catch the real culprit. It was less expensive to pay it than fight it. But that is the last of my money that Ozark will ever get. I used to spend a couple of hundred bucks a month in Ozark, so the local merchants are the real losers in this deal.
