Me and my wife will be relocating from Long Island, NY to the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina in about 2-3 months and I was wondering if anyone that has lived a considerable amount of time around the same area or knows that area pretty well could comment on some communities that we are looking to move to. The communities are Apex, Durham, Cary, Oxford, Wake Forest and Garner.

Just to give you in idea of what we are looking for, we like the houses in Oxford but we are concerned with the crime rate. Or if you would like to suggest any other area, please be my guest. All the information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I don't know of any crime in Oxford. Warrenton has a lot of trouble, because it's one of the poorest counties. Wake Forest might be nice. Cary stands for Containment area for Yankees, because a lot NYers and northerners settle there.

My husband, myself and two young children plan on moving from Ohio to North Carolina in the fall. We are looking at the raleigh area. I keep reading that people from the north are not very liked sometimes. We just want provide a better and safer life for our children. Any thoughts on this.

I live in Oxford, I'm a nc transplant from Az via Tx...the crime rate is really not that bad here for a town under 10,000. I've been here 6 yrs, It's quiet here DURHAM is 38 miles away, another 21 miles is RALEIGH, so come on down to Oxford, NC
