I remember when this happened. I lived in Ash Flat at the time working at Wal-Mart. I worked with Kathy's sister. I believe her name is Shannan. I am so glad that they did not give up on this. Horrible crime. I am so, so glad that they caught them.

I would like to take this time to thank Sheriff Weaver and Det. Huffmaster in not giving up on my brother and sister-inlaw's case.
I would also like to thank you for meeting with me last week while I was in Ash Flat. Looking forward to more meetings.

Nothing will ever completely erase the damage done by this barbaric crime, but now, finally, Justice will have her day. Thank you to the investigators who never gave up on this case, and blessings to the family and friends of Terry and Kathy Watts, who endured so much, and waited so long.

I think you are all jumping the gun here. No one has been proven guilty. How do you know they arrested the right people? And why did it take 20 years? You all credit the cops, but what have they been doing for 20 years?

Mr. Steel,

My name is Randy Watts I am Terry Watts's brother. I am responding to your comments as far as jumping the gun none of us are jumping anything. We are just glad that they have made an arrest and now we will have our day in court. Yes we waited 20 years for this day maybe it took the right people asking the right questions. I hope you are never in this situation and have to live thru it as long as we have. Just wish my Mother was around to see this day but we know where the three of them are. Plus GOD works in mysterious way's.

Randy, don't take my posting the wrong way. I truley hope they find the person or people who did this. I know we all need closure. That is not my point.

My point is that people are always ready to light the torches and grab the pitch forks just because the cops arrested someone. But yet, for 20 years the cops had no idea who did this. What makes people think they know who it is now?

I am just tired of people giving credit when it is not due. If the men (it was 2 right?) that they arrested are convicted, then I will give them some credit (the cops that is.) But until then, I just want to know what they have been doing for the last 20 years.

Randy,
my question is to those of you close to Terry. I would like to know more about this case and the loss of your family. Can you direct me to a website, where I can find out more about this. I do not have a morbid curiosity. I never met this man, but I have a good friend that Mr Wertz befirended and became prt of the family. I do not want to throw stones or support blindly. All I know is he was charged and would like to read on this. I am truly sorry for the loss your family has incured, especially if this Couple had children. I hope that if he is the 1, that justice will find away to find the evidence and keep him. I am glad to hear that the Arkansas Police Dept did not give up on Terry and Cathy.

I am a lifetime resident of Ash Flat, and I am proud that someone has finally been arrested. This was a very scary time for all of the residents in Ash Flat. I lived a few blocks from Terry and Kathy and they were at my house a few weeks before this happened about renting a house owned by my family. I would like to reply to the post of Trent Steel. The investigators knew in a very short time through the clues and their investigation who the killer was, but they did not have enough proof to arrest him. This was only done when his accomplice confessed. I feel that his ex-wife, who was also the ex-wife of Terry Watts, also be charged in this crime, because it was over child custody, between her and Terry Watts, so you know she was behind the killing.

I am so relieved that they finally figured out this case but I also feel that Belinda was behind this murder also. I graduated from Guthrie in 1982 and knew both Kathy and Terry quite well. I also worked with them at Wal-Mart in Guthrie.
I also knew Belinda and knew what kind of temper she had when things didn't go her way. I went to her apartment a few times when she had the baby girl and she was always bad mouthing Terry. I wasn't friends with Belinda; I mainly went to see another girl she shared the apartment with. It's just too bad for the children who are probably both in their 20's now.
Randy were you older or younger than Terry?
I bet you and your family are relieved to finally start seeing some type of closure to this!

Please be careful of your speculations and accusations regarding cases where all of your evidence is based on what you hear and read in the media. As someone familiar with people involved in this case, the lesson this has taught me is the media often gets pertinent details wrong in the rush to publish the story. Remember, a person is not guilty until a jury says they are. The jury will have all the evidence will be presented to them, and will have a better understanding of the crime than even a "lifetime resident" of the city where the crime occurred. That is when the family of the victims can truly hope to find closure, and I hope they do.

I want to personally thank the law enforcement that didn't give up on this. I'm Terry's cousin and same age,our daughters were also same age. There has not been a day that has gone by that some little thing has reminded me of him and for the last twenty years I've waited for justice. And, especicially, i've been torn because I want Belinda to pay because if it wasn't for her Terry would still be here, however, I love Chasenda, haven't seen her in a long time, so I would just want Belinda to spend the rest of her life jail. To the blog I read earlier, Steve Wertz comes off as a really great guy, he had alot of people fooled, you will be surprised at people and their "positions" that he was able to fool during the trial, have fun reading the transcript of the trial.

Mary, I read your comment on how much you love Chasenda and how long it has been since you have seen her. Is it possible to get in touch with you and if so I would love to talk to you? I also love Chasenda and she is having a difficult time with all of this.

First my sincerest sympathy's go out to all the people affected by this tragedy.
I am the cousin of Steve Wertz. I just found out about this incident during the loss of Steve's father this year. I personally am numb with disbelief that Steve could ever do such a thing. I pray that the jurers see only the truth of the evidence proves guilt tords the correct killer or killers so the family and friends of the Watts couple can find peace. I on the other hand am now wondering how Steve could ever be involved in such an act. I will pray for everyone that the truth will set our families free from such worry and sadness these days.
I remember when watching family video's when I was 3 and Steve might have been 8 at my Aunts wedding. What amazed me was his attentiveness tords my Aunt, making sure her wedding gown was straight and she had everything she needed. We have a large family but the only one that showed interest and compasion was little Steve.
I said to my freind, Thats how Steve has always been. He always is there for anyone if in need. A good boy turned into a good man. That is my memories and I just cant see him any other way. His parents were my favorite Aunt and uncle. They have both passed with cancer and many of us miss them dearly. Steve has the best of both his parents in his personality. Maturity and sensitivity. I again give out all my sencerest sympathy's to Kathy's friends and family.
