What is the deal with what I like to call "unearned" income? I know someone who makes like $16,000.00 per year, maybe pays $700.00 income tax but then turns around and gets 5 to 6 grand at tax time while the rest of us barely break even or have to pay in. I don't get it, these people get free lunches for their kids, medical cards, meds paid for, food stamps, rent and/or mortgage assistance and then a big fat "UNEARNED" tax check! Our government is so screwed up!

in response to reduced welfare...it is for the dead beats in peasticks...I think those idiots are afraid to work. They spend more money trying to get out of work than they would make working.

Well arby, it is not all people in peasticks. I know of a lot of families that live in the sticks area that work their butts off. Granted there are almost just as many who don't..so take it out on the ones who don't work in all areas..Salt Lick, Bethel, Olympia..........Lets go a little farther...Lexington, Winchester ..........OH a little farther.....Ohio, Indiana..... It goes on and on.. What have you got against Peasticks?

Not trying to be a smart butt, but it really sticks me that everyone who belittles everyone else usually has something to hide themselves.... Me, I really don't care what people think of me. I don't get on here and trash peoples families, I don't trash talk anyone until the attack me. I work and it galls some that I don't tell them where I work....It is none of their business until they pay ALL OF MY BILLS they can keep on guessing or trying to find out. I work for me, myself and I and my family. If anyone can't say something nice or tell the GOD'S honest truth then they need to keep their mouth's shut. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Yes, thats what a lot of people say. If truth was known these are people who do not like someone in the peasticks area and they take it out on everyone. I just wish that they wouldn't put everybody down. That is life......You don't like someone so be hateful to all. I'm not like that.

I agree, I'd like to know how they get away with it too. Loopholes, lies, claiming their pets or whatever. I'm tired of working and barely keeping my head above water.

I believe that the people sitting around complaining are the ones that get SSI and welfare, and therefore are jealous of us that work and get that big fat tax refund check! Get a job and work...if you do you can get a refund check next year!

Well I look at it as "at least they work". If they didn't work at all you would be b**ching about them drawing welfare checks. And as mentioned below other people get good size returns even making good money during the year. Don't down someone because they are working and still getting help, those are the ones that deserve the help. If you want to b**ch at someone complain to the IRS, they are the ones governing it.

The fact remains that you have to work a full time job and earn less than a certain amount per year to qualify for earned income credit. You cannot report welfare earnings as taxable income. They earned it plain and simple.

personally, I see what you all mean. I know several people who do work, but they make darn sure they do not go over $20k b/c then they would not qualify for foodstamps, free lunch, "unearned" tax checks ........ My husband and I both work our butts off, get no govt. help, and still do good to break even at tax time! I don't understand how some of these people can only pay a few hundred bucks into taxes but then turn around and get several thousand back when they barely even made several thousand (for instance, a man MAKES $16,000, pays around $800 or so INTO taxes but GETS $5,000 back). BTW, there is nothing wrong if someone needs help from the govt. during a bad time in their life....it's when they decide to LIVE off of it and then teach it to their children and so forth. I wish unless you are TRULY disabled that your foodstamps, free lunches, medical cards, welfare checks and so forth should be cut off after a year or two b/c if your not back in the saddle by then, you ain't gonna be!

why the heck should we all work our butts off and pay taxes just so that some of these lazy ass men and women can live off the system???? I agree, unless they are HONESTLY disabled or the elderly cut it off after so long. If they want a cigarette or get hungry enough, they'll get a job!

I doubt they would even then. I had these neighbors once that were always asking for something from us....pop, cigarettes, milk, a bowl, toilet paper...you name it. They didnt work, had one baby after another. The mother was maybe 18 and the father was probably 40 or so. Its crazy. Boy was I glad to see them move. LOL
