I received a note from school wanting my opinion on a topic. They are thinking of dividing the schools up. One school for preschool-2nd grade another school for 3rd-5th grade. What are your thoughts? I think its ridiculous. What would be the point in this?

Have you ever known this county to do anything positive toward schooling? I hope you sent your note back with your child saying no?

I sure did send the note back saying no. I think it's crazy. And you're right don't see what would be the positive in this.

Why do they insist on reopening old wounds? This issue was discussed, debated, and decided upon before Crossroads opened. Why go through all of that again? JUST TEACH THE KIDS!

There's a public forum Thursday night at 6:30 in the school district annex building on this topic. Everyone should go.

Is there some new research that shows this is in the best interest of our kids? If so great tell me about it. If no then quit wasting time on this and focus on education.

There shouldn't be a need fora meeting! Whomever brought this idea up needs to sent halfway across the county each morning and night!! Teach our children and let well enough alone!!
You want to reschedule classes.. we need the Ky. schoolboard to check into this, not just the piddly bunch in this county!!

So did any of you go or just staying behind a computer complaining? I am a parent of children that would be affected. I have done a lot of research for the pros and cons. So far I have not picked a side that I choose as they both have ups and downs. I don't feel that our new superintendent nor our current board will make a rash decision that would jeopardize our childrens education or. Safety. I just say that we all research it and let our decisions ne known in an adult and rational way.

The point is this was all hashed out a few years ago, very publicly. A lot of research was done by both sides and evidence was presented. The parents spoke up and a decision was made. Now why in the heck would they dredge up all of that all over again? What is the point?

It is like they purposefully pick scabs. I don't get the need to create drama.

I donot see a point in doing this either. I do not know if they are wanting to do this because they feel the 3-5 is a danger to K-2, I really do not know why something like this woud be done other than causing the expense of more tax payers and where would the second building be. I think they need to worry about the drugs and bullying in school, not only by other classmates but by teachers and principals as well. My child had to be placed on medication because of teachers bullying him and when he tried to cut his wrist with a pencil, then they became concerned. Mr Howard, the asst. superintendant did nothing other than inform and teacher to watch her back beause I wa going to file a complaint. Who is protecting the children from adult bullying? Seems as though no one cares in the system. So to your answer no I do not think they should divide schools, this would only cost more money and I would worry about those little children being mistreted by teachers and no one would find out

There is no point because they are going to do what they want to regardless of what parents think or say. It didn't do anygood for the Crossroads debate did it? Bethel had a fine school with nothing wrong and a survelience system jus placed in the building, now it is being vandalized by thugs.

Yes, there is a point. If I remember correctly, when they had this debate a few years ago, before Crossroads opened, it was the fact that the parents were against the idea that finally made them give in. Certain teachers and administrators wanted to divide the schools by grades. They didn't get their way and parents came equipped with empirical research of their own to counter what the proponents had. Didn't the Bethel and Salt Lick parents fight for Crossroads to be for their kids? I'm sure what is really going on is that those same teachers are once again pushing this idea and think that the hurt feelings over Bethel and Salt Lick will have evaporated enough to keep the parents from fighting back as hard. You need to talk to the parents who were involved in this back then. There are probably even old Topix threads about it.

There were many interesting ideas brought up at the forum! As to the reason to change schools I didn't hear of a iron clad reason or answer.
I do know there is to be construction on the OE.. thus someone needs to pay for those improvements, and in order to get a refund from the state for students attending each day, there must be numbers. The more students the more reimbursement! Sooo here we go again!
I vote to leave it as it is, my children are happy and settled where they are. If they want to change something try the middle school where so many things are in disarray!

There's a poll on the bath bulletin site at the top left corner. I did it for me and my kids.

I attended the meeting. No board members were at the meeting. Any time questions were asked, we were told it is only information gathering. Then we were told that it will be on Monday night school board agenda at 7. Later, we found out that the school board discusses agenda items starting at 5:30 and yes it is open to the public. You can see questions and concerns brought by parents on the Bath County school website.

They are probably trying to push this past the parents. I hope we didn't go the wrong way last election. So far it seems we have. Fortunately the state Attorney General put a stop to some of their nonsense concerning Rawlings.
