If you can't beat em, join em! It's inevitable anyways! I might as well quit now and enjoy more time with my family before the world ends! Besides, I don't wanna work while everyone else gets to sit at home and get handouts!!! Not very fair! So, soon, I'll b among those living off the government too, I presume! Godspeed and good luck to everyone with a job!

If you're single your best bet is to work around 160 hours a month at minimum wage. Then you can receive ebt and other benefits. So you'll make 1,160 a month but get $200 in groceries. Add on some assistance with utilities and that can leave you with $1,160 to pay for a monthly car payment, cell bill and small house pmt. That's the life!

Fortunately I have a wife and 2 kids. That will up our food stamps and if I can get my wife to get a check and maybe call my kids crazy so they'll get one, we'll be living it up!

Or even better, we'll just get "divorced" so she gets more for being a "single" mother! Now that's the way to go!

U should stop being silly and do the right thing. Work, take care of ur kids, and successfully send them out into the workforce/college. Quitting ur job and relying on the state to take care of ur family becuz ur upset with whose president is pathetic.

Yep! Then, since your kids get free lunch, you can sell half of your food stamps for $.50 on the dollar. That could be another extra $100-$200 a month to pay your car payment! Don't worry about health insurance, the government's got ya covered. I'm not against people getting assistance that need it, only those that abuse it. My family's income is about $100 over the cutoff for most assistance programs and we live in a decent house, both have cars, cell phones, internet and can buy groceries. The fact that someone making $100 less a month can get $300 in groceries and health insurance does not make sense!!

I've done the research. You should too! Just make sure you have less than about $1000 in savings, that would include your 401k. Hide your savings somewhere else and you are set!

This entire thread is completely disgusting. Can we just not be proud to be living without help from the government, instead of what seems to be jealous of those living off government assistance? First of all, have you ever done that before? Lived in Rolling Heights and had to have food stamps to feed your family? I have, and I have always wanted more, wanted better for my family. We definitely didn't live the high life while we lived in Rolling Heights...just moved out, actually. We only survived.

It is disgusting that some of you think that those on government assistance life some great life. It's a pathetic existence. Everyone should want to be better than that.

u people are conarantly calling people who get ktap lazy that is just ignorant because those little girls work their buts off 30 hours a week for unappreciative bosses that treat them like dogs yes after working harder than us because they have to do all the dirty while we sit and type on our computers they deserve their food stamps and medicaid for working 30 hours a week for a dinky little 425 a month its rudiculous they deserve some respect yes the ones who get foodstamps and everything but ktap while sitting at home living off of their men whos income is not reported I agree with u on them but not about the little girls out there working and being treated like little dogs for 425 a month.

They would never give a single person that much food stamps.

76% of SNAP households included a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person. These vulnerable households receive 84% of all SNAP benefits.[i]
SNAP eligibility is limited to households with gross income of no more than 130% of the federal poverty guideline, but the majority of SNAP households have income well below the maximum: 85% of SNAP households have gross income at or below 100% of the poverty guideline ($22,350 for a family of four), and 62% of SNAP households have gross income at or below 75% of the poverty guideline ($16,762 for a family of four).[ii]
The average SNAP household has a gross monthly income of $731, net monthly income of $336, and countable resources of $333.[iii]
SNAP is responsive to changes in need, providing needed food assistance as families fall into economic hardship and then transitioning away as their financial situation stabilizes.

Because SNAP participation closely follows unemployment, SNAP responded quickly and effectively to the recession. As the number of unemployed people increased by 110% from 2007 to 2010, SNAP mirrored that growth with a 53% increase in participation over the same period.[iv]
The average length of time a participant stays on the program is 9 months.[v]
As the economy slowly recovers and unemployment begins to fall, SNAP participation and costs too can be expected to decline. The Congressional Budget Office projects that SNAP will shrink nearly to pre-recession levels as the economy recovers and need abates.[vi]
