You don't know them because your too young and they are very much still around (well not Nirvana with the passing of Kurt) but Dave Grohl made the Foo Fighters from there. Amazing music back then, really takes me back!!

Your inability to use the proper for of "they're" shows the ignorance of your generation. Music is constantly changing and new music is being made, just because these bands aren't being played on your mainstream pop radio doesn't mean they're not around anymore. They're around, a lot of them still touring, and I guarantee being listened to just as much as any of the shit you call music today.
