She works between 50-60 hours a week. She also works for a private company. And the work she does is critical. Every time she has a patient, there is a potential of them dying...a much higher potential then most nurses deal with.

Can you back up your statement by showing me an ad for an RN making less than $40,000 or do I have to take your word for it?
You won't find an ad for an RN anywhere with a legitimate salary quote. Nurses are paid on a scale usually based on either a mathematical formula or some kind of grid that takes into account years of experience, level of education (if a hospital even takes into account the fact that some nurses have a BSN or MSN over an associates) and any advanced certifications. I can tell you that one of my coworkers with a year of experience and a four-year degree earns just under 20 dollars per hour. She is a full-time nurse (which means 36 hours not 40....hospitals won't take the chance of having to pay overtime for all those times we don't get to leave right at the end of our shift) and that makes her salary 37k and some change. That's not 40,000 and she's not a new grad. She also got a bump in her starting pay when she changed jobs because she already had one of her advanced life support cards.

LOL, You want to cut nurses' salaries? So what do nurses do to earn that "living wage" that all of you blowhards are talking about? We work endless hours of overtime. All those hours put you at risk while you bitch and moan and complain about how much pain you're in. If any of the patients I've seen in the last week had ever REALLY had to suffer they probably would have just died. Instead they whine and cry and want sympathy for their lung disease when they've chosen to smoke their whole lives. They bitch nonstop wanting me to give a shit that they're having a heart attack knowing they eat nothing but fast food. They get all dramatic thinking I want to help them with their HIV or Hep C knowing they've been IV drug users. I already don't give a fuck about any of these people. I go to work and pay my bills and if they die, so be it. Try getting me to want to improve healthcare if you cut my wages and see how that works out for you.

The way we pay out more welfare for more babies is akin to government subsidized prostitution isn't it?

I agree with everything you just said. Every job has its own perils and challenges. All work is honorable and necessary, and all work should pay a living wage. When the people on here bellyaching about the working poor drawing government assistance start fussing about the employer paying starvation wages while living like a king instead of calling some of the hardest workers around deadbeats because they don't make enough to get out of poverty, maybe things will change for the better.

Not really - it doesn't tell me where an actual job is making 40k or less. Sorry.
If you go by the average, then you will have to assume everyone is making close to the same amount. It is possible that there are some making well below or well above this "average." For example, if the average is $60,000 out of 5 workers then the following could be true:
One worker makes $40k, one makes,$50k, one makes 60k, one makes $70k and one makes $80k.
Or they could all just make $60k.

Please show us how much an actual RN makes, not just an average - there are way too many possibilities

True, some people aren't mentally prepared for anything. As for as being financially ready for kids, it's not that expensive to raise a child or 2. People don't know how to handle their finances and a lot of money is wasted on unnecessary items. Just look at all the people who waited in line at
Walmart! But what about those who were financially ready, had 2 kids and then 10 years later one of the working adults becomes disabled or ill?

When you have this many bits of data, the median salary is better than the mean.
If you really want to know, I will tell you what a real RN makes.
8 years of experience, an advanced degree, board certification in my field, and every advanced life support/technical certification known to man and with all of the hours of overtime I've worked this year, I will probably be just under 60k.

Good luck to all "associates" across our country with their labor action at Walmart. Wake up hard working, honest labor! We do the work. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Walmart has numerous markdowns on black Friday.
The total of these markdowns is well over $50,000.
There are ove 3500 Walmarts in the US.
If Walmart did not have ridiculous markdowns, they would make well over $175,000,000.
Divide $175,000,000 by the number of Walmart employees 2,200,000 and each employee could get an extra $87 (that's about a $.04 raise for full time employees)
I believe the actual total of markdowns per store is way over $50,000 and probably closer to the $100,000 range. I was going by just the savings on there TVs if each store had only 10 of each tv on black Friday.

I have no problem helping those who have put forth an effort to help themselves. It's those that do nothing to better themselves that I have a problem with.

Some of you here on this thread are SO ignorant! Let me guess if a person is so lazy they choose not to further their education so they can enter into a career or start a business of their own and instead choose to be lazy and get a unskilled job like Walmart offers then it's Walmarts responsibility to pay above average wages and benefits??? Maybe you should look in the mirror and figure out why you are making low wages! Think to yourself where would America be without Walmart? 1.5 million employess - 4600 stores and BTW 53% employees WOMEN...not to mention that 75% of Walmarts management comes from hourly employees which means they hire within. They manage to provide good benefits to their full time employess and above average wages. With all that mentioned what they are doing for us WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR YOURSELF AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP OTHERS

It's a shame that one of the world's largest, most profitable corporations pays their employees so poorly that they're eligible for government assistance. We - the taxpayers, are subsidizing Walmart profits because they refuse to pay their employees living wages although they could easily afford it.
I MOST DEfinily Agree. That should make walmart corporation Feel bad. You can publicize it an say HEY! I work at WALMART and Still Draw FOODSTAMPS. Cause I can't aford to take care of my kids, pay bills, buy food, make a living cause WALMART doesn't pay enough to employees, and WALMART is a MILLION or BILLION dollar company! They learn to put electrical stuff in the departments and stuff in the grocerie section in the store at a PRICE that People can afford to buy stuff. They won't need GOVERNMENT ASSISSTANCE. I can assure you, i could run walmart alot better the way managers are running it their. ;)

It is sad they work there employees like slaves while management sets in the office and jokes around and gets paid more. I worked walmart 6 years ago, its the kids of sam walton who took over after his passing and became greedy for money so they underpay employees... i was watching something about extreme mansions on tv once and it showed the house of one of sam waltons kids who now own walmart and it was twice the size of a walmart store And they was collecting paintings that majority of cost over $1 million a piece. Employees need to strike at all walmarts, i work in a factory setting on my butt doing nothing for 8 hours and get paid almost $20 an hour while walmart employees slave for $8-9 hr
