iit was both. I'm from hawesville we were confederate tell city was union there were battles here on the river. The house that burned down beside the Methodist church had cannon damage. We also built steamboats for the confed army here. I'm hawesville was eventually occupied until the end of the war. There are alot of houses here with ties to the war I remember as a kid hearing that the Underground Railroad went thru here. Uncle toms cabin was written in lewisport

The confederacy was a failed rebellion. No sense in glorifying it.

It is a southern state. Anything south of the Mason-Dixon Line in a southern state. It was a slave owning neutral state during the Civil War. You don't have to "consider" it anything. It is what it is and it is a SOUTHERN state.

Tell city Indiana is a Northern state. Haweville, Ky is a southern state. The Ohio river was the boundary line between. Kentucky was NOT both as you stated. Underground Railroad ran along all boundaries that separated the north and south.

Kentucky was one of the "border states" in the Civil War, both geographically and politically. It was situated on the dividing line between the northern and southern regions of the United States. And it was one of only a few slave states that opted to stay in the Union. Though the Commonwealth was officially neutral, its citizens were deeply divided over the issues that caused the Civil War, and over the war itself -- a division symbolized by the fact that both Civil War presidents, Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, were Kentucky native sons. This is from the ket website maybe u should have paid attention in Kentucky history class

last spring I spent more time than I would like to admitt studying hc and the civil war for a school project. We provided supplies to both the north and the south. Our people were brutally divided. a group of renegades from hc burned down the daviess co courthouse It was the most Interesting project I've done in a long time.

there is nothing wrong with knowing your heritage. Right or wrong it happened those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I love Ky I think it is beautiful and a wonderful place to live. Maybe if your momma wasn't your cousin then u wouldn't know so very much about inbreeding :). There is nothing wrong with reading about history, lol, you had to learn about it somewhere too-- and FYI your wrong we supported both. U said because we were a slave owning state we were southern and that isn't true. We were both.

We were SOUTHERN because we are south of the Mason-Dixon Line. A state CAN'T be Northern AND Southern. Go ahead and just stop, your beginning to sound like an idiot. We were a slave owning southern state ... PERIOD!

I said no such thing. Go back and read. I said we were a slave owning neutral southern state. WE ARE SOUTH OF THE MASON-DIXON LINE ... KENTUCKY IS A SOUTHERN STATE! ALWAYS HAS BEEN, ALWAYS WILL BE!
