Why is death being sought in this case and none of the other murders in the area in the past twenty years? Who decides one victim's life is worth more than any other? And why are these threads about this topic deleted when that question is asked?

Murder.kidnapping.violating a dvo. Stealing her car and if they were broke up anything she did was none of his business. Do you hear me none of his business. He had no right to do or say anything to this girl. She does not have to be with anyone just because he is to childish to know that gives him no right to hurt her. These parents need to teach their kids you cant own a person no matter how your little girly feelings get hurt

Aleah Beckerle-kidnapped, murdered, body dumped like trash. No death penalty! Amanda Riley murdered, dumped in a lake, corpse was violated. No death penalty! Tremain Mackle-tied, beaten, murdered, dumped in a box in a creek. No death penalty! The countless child deaths from resulting from adult abuse, no death penalty! But they'll seek death penalty in a domestic violence case like this? She did not deserve to die but neither does he. Parents need to teach their children you can't mess with people's emotions. It's ugly and brings nothing but bad things. If she were done with him she should have been done, not kept playing games with him. But that's neither here nor there. The whole point of this is why does Erica's life hold more worth than Aleah Beckerle's or anyone else murdered in recent years? Aleah was a special needs child and her murder hasn't even really been investigated.
When personal bias dominates the justice system, that is a sign that system is corrupt.

He does not deserve to die???? Why does he not deserve to die? He purposely took another life. Maybe you should argue that the other murderers DO deserve to die, because then you would be spot on!

You can't answer the question either. Why is Erica considered so much more special than anyone else who's lost their life?

Personal Bias has no place in a court of law. All men are created equal and Justice is supposed to be blind.

The other murderers certainly deserve to die. Matt does not. He was emotionally abused by her for years and finally snapped. He needs great help for his battered mind.

It is all the other charges with the murder that is your answer. Get over yourself he deserves to die worse than what they will do

You get over yourself. You're telling me that a man who choked his longtime game playing, manipulating bitch of a gf deserves the death penalty more than a person who kidnapped, murdered and had sex with the corpse of their special needs child?

I think in the Beckerle case, the death penalty was not sought because of lack of evidence. They didn’t even convict Roach of murder in that case.

Read KRS 532.025 or this link for the state of KY.
https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/aggravating-fact...

Adams had an aggravating factor in his murder.

The other ones, as horrendous as they are (and I think most people would agree more horrendous than Adams), had no aggravating factors.

Agree with it or disagree with it, it is what the law is in the state of Kentucky.

I'm curious to know what Erica and her family connection is to the prosecutor. And why Casey Embry isn't getting this kind of press? Nor anyone else murdered around here? It is because she's white and comes from a wealthy family. Tremain Mackle was black and homosexual. He was the victim of a hate crime but I read nothing on the news about him, I don't think his killers are even still in jail. He was beaten, killed, thrown in a box and discarded in a creek all because he was black and gay in their White Red Neck Daviess County. No body cared. Glad to know the system is biased toward affluent whites and it's ok.

That’s a ludicrous statement. Beckerle got WAY more press than any of those cases, even Owen.

I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I think Embry got as much “print press” as Owen.

There is also a de facto moratorium in place halting executions. Only 3 men have been executed in ky since 1976 and none at all since 2008. Do you honestly believe that there were no aggravating factors in Tremain Mackle's murder? He was the victim of a racial hate crime. Aleah was kidnapped and murdered which is an aggravating circumstance. The difference between these are that Erica is a wealthy white woman whose family is known by who's who of this Podunk society. The regular poor folk don't matter. Justice in Owensboro has taken off her blindfold and decided she only cares about wealthy whites.

Mackle: Read the link I gave you or KRS 532.025: hate crime is not an aggravating factor for capital punishment in KY (although I think it should be).

Beckerle: Again, I think they would have sought the death penalty if they had more evidence, but the prosecution didn’t even have enough evidence to convict him of murder period, much less the death penalty. And don’t make that one about race - the offender was black as well.

I don’t feel she deserved death because it’s not anyone’s decision but Gods when it comes to taking a life, but I know all to well what it’s like to have a woman play mind games on you until you feel you’re about to break and it’s not a very good feeling that’s for sure. Women forget a lot of times how’d they feel if certain things were done to them like they have done to men. There’s way to many women out there that likes to think they’ve got it all figured out on how not to be caught up in their cheating and lying that’s not nearly as slick as they believe. It’s really not that hard to leave the person you’re with if you ever decide you want something else, but instead choose to not let go of who they’ve got all the while sneaking around sleeping with whoever they want playing sick mind games on them. People do eventually break I can see how easily that could be and it’s scary. Remember guys also have feelings too. I’m not saying Matt should or shouldn’t be sentenced to death that’s not for me to decide but I can relate to the anger he probably had at the moment.

Her last name was Owen that's very ethnic isn't it? Her grandparents may have mixed ancestry but she was listed as caucasian. Still doesn't change the fact that they're seeking the death penalty when the aggravating factors and the mitigating factors cancel one another out, or the fact that no one cares about poor gay black men. His killers are already on a pre trial diversion. He was killed by strangers who hated him because he was black and gay. They were also convicted felons already when they murdered him. But his life didn't matter. Only wealthy whose who.

Mackles killers have been at DCDC for months now close to a year I believe and will be until they’re final sentenced. Casey got press and when his investigation opens fully and more come forward there will be more press. But to be honest females usually get a lot more press than males. A young female nurse strangled by her crazed ex lover with whom she had an EPO against, yeah that’s gonna get a little more press than most. He deserves to die and so does anyone else that takes a life. If someone did that to your mom or sister you would have the exact same thoughts, death.
