How can employers be motivated not to reduce workers' hours to not have to give them full benefits of full time workers?

They can't. Greed and corporations rule this country...not making sure that all people are taken care of. Sick world we live in.

I thought Starbucks offered its part time employees health insurance.

Yes, having a conscience and doing the right thing apparently has no spot in today's corporate board room.

I know other companies that do, too, but It's usually so expensive that it isn't cost effective. Starbucks could be an exception, though. I was just speaking generally.

And even some insurance for full-time employees is ridiculous. The cheapest plan for my husband still has a $2500 deductible, with $6k max out of pocket.$2500 plus premiums before your insurance will even pay anything? Pathetic.

6K max out of pocket means that no matter how much your health care costs, you never have to pay more than 6K of it yourself. That's good news, not bad.

And 2500 deductible is not so bad either. It just means most years you won't be getting anything paid for by your insurance. That's how it should be. That's how insurance is supposed to work. But when you really need it, because you suddenly have $100,000 in medical bills, that $2500 deductible will suddenly start to look like very good news.

$6k in unforeseen medical expenses is the reason people buy health insurance - not the expected outcome.

But it's bad news when you probably aren't going to spend $2500 in an average year, let alone $6k on healthcare. Being young and in relatively good health, it's not good insurance. My elderly grandmother doesn't even spend $2500 a year on healthcare.

In many cases no. Some people work more than one job so which employer would have to cover them??

I think all full time employees should have healthcare. And I think employers, like Wal Mart, should have the shit fined out of them for working people part time that would work full time. So why hire someone full time when you can work two people to get around paying benefits?

I think me. Youth sports coach should watch his nasty mouth. I think both of you socialist egomaniacs should pack up and head for Russia, or France or Greece. You are always sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong. Get a life.

I think you small government - low taxes people should all move to Haiti, because if you love low taxes and an essentially non-existent government, you'd fit right in there. Egomaniacs?? What in the world are you talking about?? In case you didn't notice the results of the latest election, people like "us" are in the majority.

But all in all, a typical neocon reaction from you - "anyone who doesn't agree with ME should leave MY country." :)

One possible solution to the part time problem would be to increase the minimum wage for part time workers.
