I agree. Felons should not be coaching Little League baseball.

I take all these comments as southern is not the best league sign up for. I signed my son up for eastern last year and was not pleased. So I talked to a few parents and they said southern was better. I was going to sign my 12 year old and 10 year old up for next years. At southern should I not do this?

Here is the unfortunate truth about Owensboro youth sports, city and county people are different and when you put them together they dont mix. No one ever complains about Soccer at Horse Fork Creek politics, bc mainly county kids and parents play there. Look at Youth football, more cussing fighting and tatoos than you see at a rock concert. Most parents from the county are outraged at the youth football and many have flocked to the new league. Eastern and Southern both have rich parents alongside dirt poor rednecks and those you see at Walmart on Frederica. The 2 types dont mix, poorer people resent rich money and affluence, rich look down upon actions of lower as classless. Overall ball is better at Southern but your kid can get just as good in other leagues that are less dramatic. You however will have to work with him at home, play travel ball and do lessons. Just a thought, let the trashing begin.

I love coaching them but its better for them get another point of view from some else! That's all my looking. If u have any info on when any travel baseball team will be having a try out for 2014 season it will help thanks again!

My kid played for the coach-pitch Marlins and we were happy with our coaches. They went undefeated too. I know that coach-pitch is more tame than the older leagues though.

Actually the worst thing I have ever observed during a youth sports event happened at Horse Fork Creek. A dad was telling his 5+ yr old daughter to take another girl out on the soccer field. It was crazy!

I heard several times that the Marlins had one of the worst spectators/assistant coaches that was on any of the fields during this spring season at Southern. Several complaints about this person by parents, other coaches, and even board members. What's your take on this?
The three main coaches were fine. The head coach had a relative (maybe his dad or father-n-law) that helped out and that was a little high strung and too serious at times. He is probably who they are talking about. I don't think he was one if the main coaches.

What?? the Marlins were the one team in coach pitch no one liked, their coaches got rid of the only two girls on their team, just so they could go undefeated. They did not want a girl on their team because they could not play as well and did not want to take the time to coach them. These coaches are everyting that is wrong with SLL, they were win at all costs even at the youngest levels.

My kids have played for 4 different leagues over the years. And the best place talent level wise is at SLL. At SLL you will get to know all the kids and their parents. As a whole the parents get along pretty well. It is the coaches that do most of the fighting.

Granted 99% of all the things in this thread is true. But 90% of the parents and kids never get caught up in this type of drama.

It is the best place for kids to play and the best place for parents as well.

For any parents considering Southern Little League. Our child played in the county for a few years. We decided to move to Southern, best move we ever made. Played there for last 3 seasons. We never had any issues nor did we ever see any of what is being said on here in 3 years. I do believe you are going to have your "bad seeds" in every sport. If my son could play another year there, I would definitely sign him up!

For two years the Marlins manager/lunatic father in law have been running up the score on 5 and 6 year olds. Their coaching days at SLL are numbered. Win at all costs now = watching from the stands later.

All the coaches on that team need to go. Father-in-law and the Son-in-Law both and any other coach on that was on the field.

I quit helping a coach because I did not agree with what he was doing.
